TOPIC: CHOOSE HONOUR OVER BITTERNESS

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. How do I respond when someone who has hurt me or opposed me experiences difficulty?

 

 

David had every reason to rejoice when Saul, the man who relentlessly pursued his life, died. Yet David mourned. He also grieved when Abner, Saul’s commander and former opponent, was murdered. Instead of celebrating their downfall, David chose honour over bitterness.

This reveals the strength of a noble heart. David did not pretend that Saul had never wronged him, nor did he excuse wrongdoing.He simply refused to allow another person’s actions to fill his heart with hatred.

As Christians, we will encounter people who misunderstand us, oppose us, or hurt us. Our response should not be driven by revenge or the desire to see them fail. We can confront wrong without becoming bitter, and we can forgive without approving evil.

What comes out of our mouths reveals what fills our hearts. Therefore, let us ask God for the grace to see the good in others, speak honourably, and leave personal vengeance in His hands.

A mature Christian does not celebrate another person's downfall; he chooses love, honour, and grace.

PRAYER

Precious Father, cleanse my heart from bitterness, resentment, and the desire for revenge. Give me grace to forgive, honour others, and respond to those who hurt me with love and wisdom. May my words reflect the goodness You have placed in my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
