TOPIC: SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

THEME SCRIPTURE: “ If you put the brethren in remembrance of these things, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, that you have followed .” -  1 Timothy 4:6 KJV

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1. Must our spirits be nourished?

2. With what shall we nourish our spirits?

Every believer was born again as a baby in the Lord. As such, we all must grow into maturity. The beauty of the new life in Christ is experienced more at the mature level. This is why Paul the Apostle revealed that strong meat belongs to them that are of full age…(Heb 5:14). It is when our spirits are malnourished that a true believer experiences depression, lack of joy and peace. Brethren beloved, growing in Christ is a necessity and non-negotiable.

But with what shall we nourish our spirits to grow in Christ Jesus?

The true believer of Christ, according to our theme scripture, must nourish on the words of faith and good doctrine. Thus, to grow, we must feed on the word of faith. The spiritual staples in the daily diet of the believer must be good doctrine coupled with the God-kind of faith.

Remember, we have been born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:23). Such a birth ensued in our spirits.

Such a birth can be sustained by the same word of God we believed. This is why the daily study of the scriptures, with periods of reflection and meditation on the scripture, is central to the Christian living.

Just a day without intentional study and meditation is a day without nourishment for the human spirit. As you daily nourish your body and mind, do all you can to also nourish your spirit. Throughout centuries, believers who have gone ahead of us have attested to the universality of this spiritual nourishment, and there has never been found a substitute for it.

Even though there is no substitute for growing our spirit through the study and meditation on the word of faith and doctrine, there seems to be emerging a substitute approach in our days - the fast-food outlet approach - and it doesn’t get the job done.

In our busy schedules, we rush through scriptures or our phones pop scriptures in the morning for our reading and that is enough for the day. Precious one, that is not enough. Jeremiah said, “Thy words were found and I did eat them, and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart:…” (Jer 15:16). God's word for you daily must be searched and found in the Holy Scriptures, and eaten to experience joy.  This is why the busier your day, the more you need time alone with God’s word.

To sail through a busy day requires a peace that subdues, patience that endures, faith that prevails, mental strength, and gentleness of spirit. It is only by ruminating or cogitating on God’s word can we be prepared for a busy day.

Beloved brethren, among your priorities, where have you placed your spiritual growth? How are you disciplining yourself to nourish your spirit day by day to grow in Christ Jesus?

Let God’s word revive you today, to be consistent with the studying and meditation of scriptures going forward. Such that you come into an experience of the fullness of what it means to know the Son of God, becoming perfect with the full dimension of spiritual maturity and the full development in the abundance of Christ.

Glory to God.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

1. How are you going to ensure that every day you can spend time studying and meditating on God’s word?

CONFESSION

Precious Lord, thank you for your word that is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I affirm that I have received grace today to be consistent in fellowshipping with God’s word. I confess that my mind is set on God and my spirit is in tune with the Most High as I meditate on scriptures daily. Glory to Jesus!
