PREPARATORY QUESTION
- How do you always ensure that your choices are in alignment with that of God?
God had assured Samuel to listen to the elders of Israel and give them a king. How was Samuel going to make the selection since there was no blueprint available in Israel? The people desired a king like the other heathen nations. So, God gave them a king according to their taste—a king with heathen qualities. Saul, whom God chose for Israel, was a choice young man, tall and handsome. His outward qualities were great for a king, but no one cared about his internal qualities.
But the king or leader after God's own heart was selected not according to his external qualities but the state of his heart (1 Sam 16:7).
Beloved, Saul's character was not considered in the picture. Saul's ignorance about Samuel when they met was shocking. When Samuel walked towards him, Saul did not know the prophet of Israel. He requested to see the seer, yet he was standing in front of him (1 Sam 9:18-19). Saul's servant was better than him. He knew that Samuel was likely to be in this town at that moment, and he was right. This did not promise well for a successful reign for Saul and his people.
Beloved, how do you make your choices? According to your sight, taste, or feeling, or according to the leading of the Spirit? God cannot stop you from making your own choices.
But remember that you will bear the consequences if there arise any. God was not happy with the decision and request of the elders of Israel, but He granted their request. God would grant your request if you insist, but it will not taste well in your mouth. I have seen men who have chosen wives according to external qualities. Today, they regret because the internal qualities (or the state of the heart) of that partner were ignored. They are battling each other in court, yet these same people professed love for each other in past years. People have struck business partnerships based on sweet talk and presentations. There were no considerations for the hearts of the persons involved. It began well until the time to share gains came. Then greed and self-seeking showed up in the partnership. Out of the heart, beloved, are the issues of life, not our external appearances.
Precious one, learn to trust in the Lord with all your heart, leaning not on your own understanding. In all [not some] your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.
Yeah, acknowledge Him in your choices and decision-making process. Acknowledge Him and find out His thoughts about your choices and His opinion about your direction. Don't choose and dump it on Him to come along with you. It won't be in your interest. However, if you will acknowledge Him today in your choices, He will direct your path. He will bring you to your superior place.
Remain blessed.
