Theme: THE WAITING SIMEON
THEME SCRIPTURE: "And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him." Luke 2:25
PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. What do you make of prophecy, especially the things God has told you about?
It was time for Jesus to be presented in the Temple, after Mary's purification. All this while, two aged watchers were waiting to behold the Messiah in their lifetime. For years, Simeon and Anna were waiting to welcome the King whom the prophets spoke about.
It is interesting to note that when Joseph and Mary arrived in the Temple, of all the crowds going up and down, none could recognize or guess that the Messenger of the Covenant had entered the Temple.
How busy we often are, in the Temple and outside it, that we fail to recognize God and our times of visitation.
When you read the scripture's presentation of Simeon's profile, you will definitely take note of the concentric circles of his character. He was a man of Jerusalem; a righteous, devout man; looking; the Spirit was upon him; to him, it was revealed (Luke 2:25-26).
This is the man Christ laid in his arms, and what more could be said? When Simeon embraced Christ, sunset and sunrise met. There was the glory of the age that was passing and the glory of the new Christian age that shall ever stand at perfect noon.
Beloved, how glorious it would be to find more Simeons in our day. Men and women who have character. Christians who are of Jerusalem; the place where all prophets died, and yet God could find faithful servants.
Men and women who are conscious of righteousness, walk righteously, and are in right standing with God. Their devotion to God is the breath that keeps them alive.
What is beautiful is that they are consistently looking. Simeon was looking forward to seeing the consolation of Israel. But we are looking forward to the redemption of the righteous. Precious one, are you looking, or have you lost your focus? Blessed is he who is still prepared and looking forward to the coming of his Lord. The Spirit was also upon Simeon. Must not that same Spirit be in us and upon us? Are you among, beloved, those virgins whose oil is running dry, or do you still have oil in your lamp?
There laid Jesus in the arms of Simeon in the temple. O, that reader of today's devotion, you would hold dear and joyfully in your heart the Lord Jesus.
He is your consolation in this life; a light of revelation you can't afford to lose. He is the glory of the infinite in your life; the life eternal from God. This morning, precious one, shall we all not examine ourselves to see if we are a Simeon in our time? Whether we are still walking in righteousness and looking forward to our redemption?
God bless you more.
