PREPARATORY QUESTION
- What is the importance of the Holy Spirit to the believer in Christ?
Jesus now talks to His disciples in His final hour about the Comforter. It had been a great experience being with the Lord. He fed them miraculously. He healed their infirmities. He taught them and gave them the authority to cast out devils. Then, at this juncture, He declares that very soon His disciples will no longer see Him. "What will we do without Him?" "How are we going to continue from here?" These disciples might have been wondering. Overwhelmed with sorrow, yet these disciples wouldn't ask where Jesus was going and the purpose of His journey. For if they had known, they would rejoice. So, Jesus enlightened them. He says to them, "It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you..." (John 16:7).
We gain by losing. We live by dying first. If He (Jesus) should continue with the disciples in the flesh, He wouldn't be able to unite with them in Spirit.
The presence of the Comforter was contingent on the absence of the Master. The Lord had to finish His work before the Comforter could apply it. "He (the Comforter) will take (cease or get hold) of mine and shall show it (announce in detail) unto you" (John 16:15).
Precious One, Jesus was so positive about His leaving so that the Comforter would come. The Comforter is the One who was going to be the indwelling presence of the Father in the believer's life. This is remarkable.
Jesus was God in human flesh with the disciples. The Comforter is the presence of the invisible God inside the disciples. So that the disciple becomes united with the Father. This is huge. See, David truly stated, "What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him?" (Psalms 8:4). Man is but clay with God's breath in him. However, the coming of the Comforter was to change the narrative; to make God tabernacle Himself in earthen vessels. He who has the Comforter possesses something mind-blowing. He is possessed of God and God has become his possession. Glory to God.
Beloved, do not underestimate the benefits of the Comforter. He is so crucial in our lives. This is why Paul wrote to the Colossians Church, admonishing them, "...Christ in you [God indwelling you], the hope of glory" (Col 1:27). From today, may you continue with the consciousness of the Comforter in your life. The Comforter in you is your hope of glory. Hallelujah!

- Who is the Comforter?
PRAYER
Thank you, precious Lord, for the ever-abiding presence of the Comforter in my life. I affirm that my life is supernatural because God's presence is resident in me. I am full of wisdom and understanding, might, and the fear of God. Blessed be your name. Hallelujah!
