TOPIC: THE FULLNESS OF THE SPIRIT
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.” – Ephesians 5:18
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Why is the Holy Spirit important in the life of the believer?
2. What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit?
John the Baptist made it clear in his sermon of repentance that he is called to baptize with water unto repentance. But there is one coming who is mightier, with the call to baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matt 3:11). Jesus came, and He was full of the Holy Spirit. His words carried power (Matt 8:26), and demons could not accommodate His presence (Matt 8:28-29). The supernatural was Jesus’ lifestyle. Now, Jesus promised His disciples and all those who will believe in Him that what He has done, they will do greater works than His because He goes to the Father (John 14:12). It is remarkable to know that anyone who believes in Jesus will do many more supernatural acts than He did. After the apostles received the Holy Spirit, what Jesus said came to pass in their lives.
They produced remarkable results. They influenced lives positively; they changed their world.
However, the supernatural is not so common in the life of the postmodern Christian. Why is it so? The reason is that many Christians today do not value the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit. How can you say you are a believer of Christ and not value the Holy Spirit? Hence, Paul asked some believers in Ephesus, “…have you received the Holy Spirit after you believed?” (Acts 19:2) This implies that whenever you believe in Jesus, it doesn’t end there. You must also go ahead and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Precious one, have you received the Holy Spirit of God after you believed?
It is important to state that it does not end there just to receive the Holy Spirit. He [the Holy Spirit] must be an active player in the day-to-day living of the Christian. To make Him an active player in your life, you must be filled to the full every day with the Holy Spirit, as our theme scripture admonishes. This in-filling is not from outside of you, as though God will pour again and again the Holy Spirit into you. Rather, it is an in-filling from within, where the Holy Spirit grows larger and larger in you till He has taken over your entire being and your soul and body are subject to Him.
Precious One, do you desire to live a life of fire? Always remember - where there is the fullness of the Spirit, there will always be fire. Go for the Spirit.
Our effectiveness as Christians lies in our continuous in-filling by the Holy Spirit. We can win more souls for the kingdom, live above sin, and produce mind-blowing results, and the fruit of the Spirit if we go for the Spirit and His fullness. Until then, the carnal life, struggling and addiction life, and fearful life of the ordinary man will characterize our lives. Beloved in Christ, go for the extraordinary life; be filled with the Spirit.
God bless you more.
