TOPIC: TRAIN YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness.” - 1 Timothy 4:7
PREPARATORY QUESTION:
1. What is godliness?
2. How can we train for godly living?
Indeed, the day we received Jesus into our hearts, God’s righteousness was imparted into our spirits. In other words, we received God’s nature to do right. This signifies that you and I can live out the righteous nature of God in us. Based on this truth, God demands that we are perfect as He is perfect (Matt 5:48). Precious one, we have been called to a life of godliness (perfection) or a consummate life (James 1:4).
Godliness is God’s righteous nature in action. It is the quality or practice of conforming to the mind and wishes of God; reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life.
Godliness is not an activity. It is a way of life; God’s way of life.
Godliness aligns with the mind and wishes of God therefore he who has the nature of God must also acquire the knowledge of God’s will. Throughout scripture, God has made available to us His will, instructions and commandments. These are to be our guide in the course of our everyday life. Further, the Holy Spirit of God who dwells in, and with us is always ready to show us what to do in this godly walk. There is no way we can lack the knowledge of God’s will, except if we choose not to know.
Exercising our spirit is key to living a godly life. It will require that the Christian is consistent with the word of God. It is by searching scripture that we can appreciate the will and mind of God.
Our daily devotion to the word of God is important if we truly want to walk godly. Further, our daily communion in prayer and with the Holy Spirit cannot be underestimated. Jesus, mentioned that “when the Spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Never be too busy to fellowship with God through His word and Spirit. Finally, practice godliness because it takes practice to perfect a way of life.
Don’t be a hearer of God’s word and not a doer. Rather, practice obedience by putting God’s word into action.
Some Christians know the word of God but have never practiced it. That is not enough. For instance, knowing about giving is not enough. But practicing giving by the will of God will eventually become your lifestyle.
Precious one, train yourself spiritually. Train yourself in love, and loving people will become your lifestyle. Practice treating people with the kindness of God, and it will become your way of being. Practice being meek and merciful; it is the nature of God.
From today going forward, you are living up to God’s nature in you. You are conforming to the mind, will, and intents of God every day of your life.
Remain blessed
