Theme: BE OF GOOD CHEER
THEME SCRIPTURE: "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." - John 16:33 KJV
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- How is the Christian supposed to deal with the tribulations of the world?
It is a fact that in the midst of a battle when soldiers are weary, scorched by fire, and grimy with smoke, if the general shows up in their midst, the game plan will change. If the general rides into their midst with hearty words of encouragement and assures them that the key position has already been secured, they will fight with the inspiration of victory. How wonderful it would be to fight knowing that the victory has already been secured.
According to our theme scripture, Jesus pointed out His disciples' inescapable destiny. He assured them that in Him, they would always have peace—peace that surpasses understanding. However, the fact that we no longer belong to the world means that the world will burden us with tribulation. This is not good news, but there’s a catch.
Beloved, before we, as His disciples, could worry and ponder over how to deal with the tribulations of this world, our Leader, Jesus, had already gone ahead of us. This morning, our Commander-in-Chief sends His encouragement: "Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." So then, there is no need to worry about anything, precious one. Just carry His peace in your heart and the joy of His victory in your spirit, and keep going. All things will work together for your good. Praise God!
Though economic situations across the nations seem uncertain, be of good cheer. He has overcome the world. The geopolitical order seems threatened? Be of good cheer. He has overcome the world. The fear of a repeat pandemic seems to be hanging over the world. Be of good cheer. Jesus has already overcome the world.
Now, let me ask you this: "How do you deal with a terrible matter that has already been taken care of?" You take it off your worry list, right?
Similarly, do not let the troubles of this world bog you down. Choose to be cheerful today and every other day. Precious One, because He has overcome the world, it suggests that you are also an over-comer. Why don’t you develop the habit of celebrating His victory in all your situations from today going forward? Glory hallelujah!
