TOPIC: AN EXCELLENT SPIRIT
THEME SCRIPTURE: "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ," Philippians 1:9-10
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why do people like to associate with or want to be part of excellent things?
- What is excellence and how can one be excellent?
It is a fact that people like to associate with excellent things and naturally gravitate towards excellent people. As believers, if we choose to walk in excellence, the world will gravitate towards us, and honor will be our portion. But first, what is excellence?
In Daniel 6:3, the man Daniel was found to be of an excellent spirit (far exceeding, distinguished, worthy of note above others).
As a result, he [Daniel] was preferred and honored above all. An excellent spirit will always attract honor.
Thus, excellent people endorse, approve, and go with that which is superior (and not average or mediocrity). As a result, you can look at the things a man endorses and you can tell whether he has an excellent spirit or not (Phil 1:10).
An excellent spirit produces understanding in a man. That spirit makes a man wise and intelligent (understanding). He becomes a man of discretion (knowing what to do and when to do a thing). Glory to God!
Further, an excellent spirit makes a person aim for a high standard in everything he or she does. When it comes to time he is never late. When it comes to service, he is faithful and diligent; always going the extra mile to produce quality. When it comes to knowledge, always learning to do more and better. When it comes to organization and beauty, always ensuring orderliness and when it comes to behavior, an excellent spirit believes in and walks in discipline. The list continues.
Excellence is a Spirit (Dan 6:3) and only the Holy Ghost can give us this spirit. This is why His fruits are gentleness, temperance, love, etc (Galatians 5:22). Excellent people are gentle and loving, patient and humble, always ensuring that the best is given out. Every child of God in whom dwells the Holy Spirit has the spirit of excellence. Isn’t this good to know?
Since believers have the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Excellence) in them, it is only our choice that stands in the way of living an excellent life.
Choose to live an excellent life; choose to be an excellent Christian today. Declare over your life that you are walking in excellence from henceforth. Everything you are going to do today and every other day will be excellent to the glory of God. Beloved, live the excellent life which the Holy Spirit has deposited in you. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
In Jesus' Precious Name, I affirm that in me is an excellent spirit. I am yielded to the Holy Spirit of God who is the Spirit of excellence. Therefore I walk in order and I produce quality results in all that I do. In my profession, I am preferred. In my community and among my equals I am unique. Kings and royals look for me when they hear of me because I am a child of excellence. Glory to God.
