THEME: LIGHT HAS COME
THEME SCRIPTURE: "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." John 3:19 NKJV
PREPARATORY QUESTION:
1. Why do we sometimes hate the truth?
There are times when people fight against good men because they want to discourage them from continuing with their good deeds. Why would someone find an enemy in a good man? Yes, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matt 5:16). Sometimes, when our light shines before men, their evil deeds are made manifest, and that is how they find an enemy in us.
Beloved, darkness is nice when you have something to hide. However, if you want to find your path, stay on it without stumbling or falling, you will need light. So it all depends on your deeds.
This applies to many people who are not ready to trust Jesus with their lives. Even though light has come and they see that their ways are evil, they are unwilling to make a U-turn. The sweetness of evil continues to lure them, and they love it. Beloved, God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed (John 3:19-20).
Precious one, darkness is a friend to the man who is trying to hide his shame or trying to hold on to his sinful life. But the one who is fed up with the darkness will start seeking the light.
It is also interesting that sometimes the children of light avoid the light of God shining in certain areas of their lives. Sometimes we don’t want to know God’s will because there are areas in our lives that we aren’t ready to deal with yet.
We may be ready to pray for God’s will in some areas of our lives but feel uncomfortable having God’s light shine into the areas that are still hidden in shame.
We avoid sermons that throw light towards those dark areas of our lives. For instance, some Christians are still battling with sexual sin, pornography, substance use, corruption, etc. They keep nice faces to hide their struggles instead of surrendering to the light of His word.
Precious one, Jesus is the light of the world. “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12). Turn to Him if you have not trusted Jesus with your life. However, if we have trusted in Jesus, then let us also follow Him. That is our sure guarantee that we will have the light that leads to life.
Remain blessed.
