TOPIC: WHAT TIME IS IT?
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” – Luke 12:56
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What time is it that we are in?
Time is a resource we wish was in abundance. It is a resource evenly shared among us all, whether you are a male or a female, young or old, educated or uneducated, Christian or not. We often keep looking at the clock and observing our watches to ensure we are on time. To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Eccl 3:1). There’s a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what has been planted (Eccl 3:2).
Beloved, until we discern the times and seasons, we will always be unprepared, missing the opportunities of the times.
Today, there’s been a quantum leap in knowledge. We can easily tell when winter is approaching or the time of Spring. We can observe the northeast trade winds and tell that a dry season is ahead, or the southwest monsoon winds and know that rains are coming. Then we prepare accordingly. In the days of Jesus, they could tell the seasons and the times too. Whenever they saw a cloud rising out of the west, immediately they would say, “A shower is coming” and so it did (Luke 12:54). Then also, when they saw the south wind blow, they would say, “There will be hot weather” and truly there would be (Luke 12:55). But Jesus marvelled at them, how they could tell the weather by the signs yet they could not discern the spiritual time and season in which they were living (Luke 12:56). So, He called them hypocrites.
Beloved, what time is it, and what are we supposed to be doing now?
Moses had told the Israelites that God would raise unto them a prophet like him from among them. It is Him they should hear (Deut 18:15; Deut 18:18). They looked forward to the coming of this Messiah and yet when the time came, with all the signs, they could not tell the season and time of their visitation. What time is it, and what are we supposed to be doing now?
In the prophetic dream of Nebuchadnezzar concerning the kingdoms of the future (Dan 2:31), God revealed to the king of Babylon the kingdoms of the world to come (Dan 2:32-33). In this dream, Nebuchadnezzar was made aware that the last of the world’s kingdom is that which shall be made of a mixture of iron and clay. Then shall come a kingdom that shall make all the preceding kingdoms forgotten (Dan 2:34-35), crushing them all together, and making them like the chaff from the summer threshing floor. This kingdom will fill the whole earth and surely, it is the Messianic kingdom, and that is the era we live in.
But how are you living in this kingdom, beloved? Truly as a citizen of it, or as a squatter? What time is it now?
The disciples approached Jesus with a brilliant question: “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the signs of your coming and of the end of the age” (Matt 24:3). Jesus responded and clarified that before He returns, and the world comes to an end, we will hear of wars and rumors of wars, nations will rise against nations, false prophets will rise, iniquity will abound and the love of many will grow cold, etc. (Matt 24:4-14). Precious one, can you discern the times we are in, that it is the time of the latter days? Can you watch your spiritual clock or observe your spiritual watch and truly tell the time? Only then can you redeem the time because the days are evil. Remain blessed.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- Are you living your life as one who understands the times and the seasons we are in?
PRAYER
Eternal Father, truly the days are evil. It is a time and a season where chaos seems to rule and righteousness is not regarded. I ask and receive grace to remain in you, with you, and for you. Grant me wisdom to live with the consciousness that you are coming soon, redeeming the time. Hallelujah!
