THEME: YOU ARE HIS TEMPLE
THEME SCRIPTURE: And said unto them that sold doves, “Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.” John 2:16 KJV
PREPARATORY Questions
- How do you see your body as a child of God and are you desecrating it?
Jesus had entered into the Jerusalem Temple. There was a booming market established in the Temple Court. Animals were being sold and coins were being exchanged. These were all done under the guise of helping pilgrims readily get the right animals for sacrifices under the Law. The money changers were supplying Jewish coins (which alone could be offered in the Temple) in exchange for Roman and Greek coins. Behind all these were the true motives of greed and covetousness of merchandization. These merchants had forgotten so easily that the Temple was to be a holy place and needed to be treated as sacred ground. Jesus, looking around, could not take this desecration of the Father's house. He drove them all out—the money changers and the animal sellers. He cautioned them never to make "My Father's house a house of merchandise."
Precious One, Apostle Paul reminded us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). If so, how must we treat our bodies? Should it not be with reverence and honor? Then, why is sexual immorality being permitted in this temple? Why should we merchandise our bodies, giving ourselves over to lasciviousness, pornography, and all forms of tattooing? If this temple, which is your body, is God's house, how are you to possess this vessel?
Our theme scripture provides hope if we have desecrated His temple. If He comes in, He will cleanse it. Shouldn't we invite Jesus into our lives, If we haven’t already done so, let us invite Him to make us a new creation. If we have invited Jesus into our lives but have been drawn away by the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches, He can cleanse us once more. All you need to do is to turn to and yield to His Word and you shall be cleansed by the same (John 15:3).
The entrance of His Word brings light against all darkness and evil within, and gives understanding to overcome naivety.
You are His temple. Remain His temple, holy and acceptable unto Him. Remain blessed.
