TOPIC: FAITHFUL, DEPENDABLE GOD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “God is faithful, by whom you were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord” – 1 Corinthians 1:9
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Is God truly faithful?
2. What does it mean to say God is faithful?
In all relationships, what is essential is dependability. Dependability gives you peace of mind when you know that you have people around you that you can depend on at all times. But interestingly, people are not God. They cannot see beyond today and are therefore unable to guarantee their dependability at all times. As such, many have resorted to putting their trust in money and properties, and that has also not worked. I read a story during the global financial crunch. A man had worked many years of his life, and all his wealth was in stocks. He woke up one day and realized that all his stocks had lost value and that his wealth had been eroded. He didn’t think twice. He went home and committed suicide.
If we are looking for the one we can depend on at all times, precious one, it is God.
Our theme scripture points out that God is faithful and can be trusted. The one who has called us to fellowship with His Son, Jesus, is dependable. God’s faithfulness is declared to be unfailing (Ps 89:8). God is not like man that He will need to change His mind once He has spoken. "Has He said it, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" (Num 23:19).
God’s faithfulness is revealed in how He has stood by His word for ages to fulfill them all.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of God, saying, “…well-thought-out plans you formed in ages past; You’ve been faithful and true to fulfill them all!” (Isa 25:1). Glory to God. Every promise God has given, He will watch over those promises to honor them. Has God spoken concerning your life, precious one? Rejoice forevermore, for faithful is He who has promised (Heb 10:23).
Sometimes, it seems to many of God’s people that the wicked prosper and the righteous suffer. Many, therefore, have wondered whether it is worth doing what is right. God’s people indeed suffer for doing what is right. But this is our assurance: "let those who suffer according to the will of God enfold their lives into the hand of the Creator, who will never fail us, and continue to always do what is right" (1 Pet 4:19).
Beloved, always have the confidence to approach God in prayer because He is faithful.
During prayer, be assured that you are being heard because God can be trusted. And after prayer, know that you have your petition because His word is true. Let your dependence on God be strong and constant. Keep your trust in Him alone, and you will be secure all your days.
God bless you more.
