TOPIC: BY JESUS, GOD HAS SPOKEN
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed as heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” – Hebrews 1:2
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Who is this Son by whom God has spoken to us in these last days?
Throughout history, God has spoken to the early fathers and His people through prophets in various ways and at different times (Heb 1:1). Thus, God did not reveal all of Himself at any one time. Hence, the revelation of God was a continuous process. God revealed Himself first as the creator. He also revealed Himself as the righteous God and the judge of all when He sent His flood to destroy the "then-evil world". He went on to reveal Himself as the God of Covenant (the covenant-making and covenant-keeping God).
But they did not know Him as the God of love.
Precious One, God never said or showed all about Himself in one period of revelation. By speaking in bits and pieces at various times and through different means (events, prophets, individuals, etc.), God continued to broaden our understanding of Him. Such that later revelations would come in to clarify and enlarge previous ones. The revelation of God has been progressive.
God spoke (a process that continued over a period of time) through the prophets. But in these last days, He has spoken (completed, not to continue) by His Son.
The old revelation went on and on, growing without coming to completion. The new revelation is a complete revelation of God (finished, sufficient, and never to be added to). The prophets brought bits and pieces of the revelation of God; the Son brought the complete revelation. The prophets were precursors; He is the finality.
Beloved, who is this Son by whom God has spoken in these last days?
In the Old Testament, the term “son of God” was used for various people – angels (Gen 6:1-4; Job 2:1), the Israelites (Exo 4:22-23), the theocratic king (2 Sam 7:14), etc. In the New Testament, the term “Son of God” was a unique reference to Jesus the Messiah. The term was used to refer to Jesus as the One who is in the class of God (John 10:30–33). Jesus, the Son, is the special envoy of God the Father (Luke 10:22). No one has seen the Father at any time, nor has anyone known Him except the Son [Jesus]. He is the unique fulfilment of the law and the prophets (Matt 5:17) and the only one who has the authority to forgive sins (Matt 9:4-6). This Son of God [Jesus] is the one who existed before time (John 1:1); the I AM [Eternal Yahweh].
Brethren, Jesus has spoken that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man can come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). You can't ignore this. He has spoken that He is the bread of Life; you need Him. if the revelations of God spoken by prophets and angels were adhered to and brought with them a just recompense for all disobedient violations, how would we be expected to escape punishment if we despise the very truth spoken and revealed to us by the Son, who is the heir of all things? So seek Jesus; you will not find Him, but He will find you. Follow His word, and it will be a light to your feet and a lamp to your path. God bless you more.
