TOPIC: MANIFESTING GOD’S WORKS
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.” John 9:3
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Why do people suffer sometimes?
Here comes Jesus and His disciples, and right before them was a man suffering from blindness. This man was blind from the womb. Being born blind, it was the general belief that his predicament was a result of sin. What was unsure was the one who sinned—the parents or the child. How could an unborn child sin if it was not the sins of the parents? Being unsure, the disciples asked Jesus, “Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2). The disciples were not prepared for the answer Jesus gave.
Beloved, we live in a day and age whereby the quantum leap in knowledge has brought with it more than ever before the hunger for answers to every problem.
Whenever we are driving and we encounter traffic ahead, we are eager for answers, “Where is this traffic from?” Why, When, Who, How, are all we want to know.
The disciples’ question was to find out who to blame for the predicament of this man born blind. Jesus’ answer was simply this: “no one is to be blamed.
However, in order that the works of God might be manifested in him, this man was born blind.” Could this suggest that sometimes people’s predicament is not necessarily a result of sin?
Precious one, Jesus’ answer is a lesson to us all that we must not jump to conclusions when we see people going through predicaments. We are not to assume that they have done something evil and therefore God is punishing them for it.
Rather, God allows tough times and difficult situations into our lives. God’s purpose is to manifest His works in our challenging situations.
Yeah, beloved, good people go through tough times and seasons. Faithful Christians encounter challenges and dire situations.
When you find yourself in an ominous circumstance, don’t just be asking, “Why me, Lord; what have I done?” Rather, ask the Master, “What would you want to do with my situation?” Or, Lord, glorify yourself in my circumstance.
Definitely, God will come through for you to the praise and glory of His name. Remain blessed.
