PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. What are some of the deep assurances you have clung to in life?
It is a great tragedy to be navigating through the storms of life in the boat of uncertainty. Thus, living life when you are so unsure of tomorrow is a fearful thing, and stepping into the unknown is not an easy task. Life is already full of uncertainties, and in the midst of those uncertainties, it is crucial that we have some assurances that keep us hoping and looking forward to a better tomorrow.
Often, I have seen people place their trust in power, money, or their connections in life as their sure bet in navigating life’s uncertainties. They worked to a certain point and then failed.
The children of Israel had been given a king they earnestly wanted. What lies ahead, and the path they are going to chart henceforth with their new leader, seems unsure. In his speech during the coronation of Saul, Samuel brings a rebuke, a warning, but also assurances to God's people.
According to our theme scripture, one of the assurances Samuel brings to Israel and her king is this simple truth: "The Lord will not forsake His people for His great name's sake..." (1 Sam 12:22).
Precious one, God has redeemed His people from bondage into His light. His love is so strong and far-reaching that He wouldn't let go of His own.
No matter how Israel would stray, He will be waiting to receive them if they turn to Him.
This assurance was given to let Israel know that the relationship between them and God is an eternal one. Hence, if they go wayward, and God delivers them into the hands of their enemies, they should not be burdened by guilt and the notion that they are forsaken such that they are unable to return to their God.
Beloved, there is always comfort that our security rests in the knowledge that God wants to make us His people. Thus, we are no ordinary people; we are the radiance of His glory on the earth. Further, it is encouraging to learn that He will not abandon us. Israel took great comfort in Samuel’s assurance of God’s persistent love and grace, and we also need to take refuge and comfort in the same.
Child of God, "He [God] has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So that we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me'" (Heb 13:5-6). Knowing that God will never forsake you brings with it boldness needed to navigate through the uncertainties of life. Holding on to this truth also brings us security and stability through the times and the seasons. No matter what man shall do to you, the God who has promised to never forsake you will come to your aid. When the going gets tough, when the road is dusty and rough, this same God will succor you. Beloved, if God will never forsake you, then know that you will always have help throughout your journey in life. You are blessed.
Remain blessed.
