TOPIC: BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED
THEME SCRIPTURE: “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean to be spiritually minded?
- What benefit is there for the man who is spiritually minded?
From our theme scripture, we are encouraged to be spiritually minded. The reason is that a spiritually driven life, focused on the things of the spirit produces life and peace. Hence Jesus admonished us that we shouldn’t spend all our lives pursuing earthly treasures that can be stolen or cannot accompany us to the next life. Rather, we should stockpile spiritual or heavenly treasures that cannot rust or be stolen (Matt 6:19-20). What does it mean to be spiritually minded?
To be spiritually minded involves setting the Lord before you (Psalm 16:8). It is important that we make the Lord our focus in this life. Look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
There are many Christians whose focus in life is not to live for Jesus but solely for themselves.
Moreover, the spiritually minded desire and seeks higher spiritual experience with God (Psalm 42:1-2; Psalm 119:131). The more we know Him, the more we want to know Him. At every level of our existence, there will always be another level we can reach up to, and the spiritually minded are unrelenting in his pursuit of higher spiritual experiences with God.
There are many things that can influence us at every particular moment in time. Sometimes money influences the sons of men. Therefore, they say every man has a price. Other times it is reputation. However, the spiritually minded is mindful of his/her dependence on the Word of God (Matt 8:8). Allowing the word of God alone to influence him (Psalm 107:20).
Precious One, we live in a day whereby our lives are so busy. There are too many things demanding our attention, such that it is possible to lose sight of the fact that we are pilgrims here on earth.
We are passing through this place but our destination is to be with the Lord. This is why we need to be spiritually minded at all times so we can realize our spiritual goal. To do this, it will require that we are consistently in fellowship with the Holy Spirit of God. Our daily communion with God’s word is important in keeping us focused and yielded to the things of God.
From today going forward, you are tuning or setting your mind to conform to the things of the Spirit, in Jesus’ Precious name. Glory to God!
