TOPIC: THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S

THEME SCRIPTURE: “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world.”* —1 Samuel 2:8

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. If the earth belongs to God, why should this be important to me?

Hannah’s praise to God climaxes with a bold declaration: the very foundations of the earth belong to the Lord. This isn’t poetic exaggeration. It’s theological clarity. God is not only involved in individual lives— He is Lord over all creation. The ground beneath our feet, the seasons, the rise and fall of nations—He sustains them all.

In a world where foundations seem to shake—economies falter, leaders disappoint, even the moral fabric of society unravels—Hannah’s words call us to anchor our hope in the One whose rule is unshakable. He set the world on its foundations, and He upholds it with His word (Hebrews 1:3).

The early Church Father Athanasius wrote, “God became man so that man might become godly.” Why? Because a world without a Creator-King would descend into confusion. But with God on the throne, we have certainty. We’re not adrift—we’re held. And our calling is to live with reverent awe, knowing we are stewards in a world that belongs to Him.

So, don’t live as though this world is yours to exploit or manipulate. Live as one grounded in God’s authority.

Let God's ownership shape your humility, your stewardship, and your worship.

Do you know that sometimes we forget that this earth has an owner, and that we have been given the privilege to be part of God's grand agenda? And during such times, we talk proudly, act pompously, and imagine vain things. This is why it is important not to forget your Creator-King every day that you have breath in you. If truly He is your Creator-King, then from today live in Him, with Him, and for Him.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. In what ways do I forget that the world—and my life—belongs to God?
  2. How can acknowledging God as Creator and Owner change the way I approach my decisions, possessions, or relationships?
  3. Do I trust God to hold me when everything else feels unstable?

PRAYER

Lord of heaven and earth, You have laid the foundations of creation and uphold all things by Your power. Forgive me when I act like I am in control. Help me to live with reverence, humility, and joy, knowing that You are the One who establishes and sustains. In times of shaking, be my unshakable Rock. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
