TOPIC: WHEN GIVING BECOMES WORSHIP

THEME SCRIPTURE: “They received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary… The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” – Exodus 36:3-5 (ESV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. How does giving become an act of worship before God?

In Exodus 36, something remarkable happens: the people give too much. So much, in fact, that Moses has to command them to stop bringing offerings (Exodus 36:6). This is not the result of pressure or manipulation—it is the natural overflow of hearts awakened to the presence and purpose of God. Their giving became worship.

**Worship is more than songs and prayers. It is the surrender of the whole self—heart, hands, and substance to the Lord.**

The Israelites gave because their eyes had seen His power, their lives had tasted His deliverance, and their hearts were stirred by His nearness. The Tabernacle, the place where God would dwell among them, was not just a religious structure. It was a response to grace.

What we give ourselves reveals what we truly value. In the words of Richard Baxter: “Where money is more loved than God, there the heart is gone from Him.” The Israelites’ generosity was not measured by obligation but by affection. Their giving became an act of worship because it flowed from revelation.

Too often, we separate worship and giving—as though one happens on Sunday morning and the other on a spreadsheet.

Beloved, the early Church understood this unity. In Acts 4:32-35, the believers “had everything in common” and laid their resources at the apostles’ feet—not because they were forced, but because they were free. Worship had broken the chains of ownership.

Tertullian once said, “What a man spends Godward, he stores heavenward.” When giving is worship, it is never lost.

Yeah, true giving becomes a declaration: “God, You are worth more to me than this.” Precious one, we don’t give to meet God’s need—He has none. We give because we need to worship. Generosity reminds us that our treasure is not in what we keep, but in what we release in faith. The Israelites were not impoverished by their giving— they were enriched by obedience, unified by mission, and marked by worship. When giving is worship, there is never too much. Today, seize every opportunity to worship God with your giving.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Is my giving a transaction or an act of worship?
  2. What does my generosity reveal about what I value most?
  3. Am I willing to give beyond convenience, as an overflow of devotion?

PRAYER

Father, I receive understanding to give as worship—to hold nothing back when it comes to You. From today, my offerings reflect Your worth in my life. Stir my heart until my hands respond. Let my generosity be a sweet fragrance before You, like incense in Your sanctuary. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
