TOPIC: JESUS SETS YOU FREE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” – John 8:36

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1.     What is true freedom?

 

One of the most beautiful verses in scripture is John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but has everlasting life (God’s life)”. There is nothing as painful as to be told, in your moment of dire need, that there is no solution anywhere for you. Such was the hopeless situation of mankind for centuries. The predicament of mankind has been his slavery to sin and death. Such that it was our philosophy that, the day man is born he starts to progress towards death. What can be so disturbing is when a man created in the image of God is bound and controlled by addiction. Such a man sees his life being destroyed yet he is so helpless to change his course.

Jesus hit the nail on the head when He told the Jews – he that commits sin is a servant (slave) of sin (John 8:34).

However, Precious One, Jesus made a follow-up statement to sin’s enslavement. He states that though sin has enslaved mankind, it is not a hopeless situation. There is someone who can set us free; He can give true and lasting freedom (John 8:36). That person is Jesus.

Many years ago there were some missionaries who visited prisoners to minister to them. These were hardcore prisoners. They met a prisoner who has experienced the transforming power of Jesus. In his testimony, he said, “Finding Jesus here in this prison has set me free from the controlling power of sin. My family have been worried because I am incarcerated here, but they don’t know that I am free. They think they are free; they are yet to know that they are enslaved by sin. I pray for them every day that they too will come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus.” Precious One, without Jesus, man is a slave to sin and death.

Pornography, gambling, sex, alcohol, drugs, etc. are addictive. Sins that continue to destroy homes and relationships, destinies and dreams.

But Jesus is big enough to set you free from them all. There are medications that promise to curb the cravings of addiction. But I tell you the truth, I lie not. My conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost – only Jesus can truly set you free. Why don’t you bring all your addictions to Him today and hear Him say unto you – Go, and sin no more; you are free indeed. Do you need an opportunity to turn a new leaf and start all over again? Come to Jesus. He gives true freedom for free. It will cost you nothing. Glory to His name.

1.   Assessing yourself, is there any addiction or habitual sin in your life? It could be something as small as a soda drink but you seem to be hooked to it.

2.   Do you believe there is hope in Christ for every situation, addiction and sin?

 

CONFESSION

Precious Father, thank you for giving us Your Son Jesus. I confess that in the Son, I have liberty and total freedom from sin and anything that exercises dominion over my life. Having surrendered my life to Christ, I have surrendered all, including all addictions. Nothing therefore can have dominion over me. Hallelujah!
