TOPIC: COUNTING THE STARS
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” — Genesis 15:5–6
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why did God ask Abram to count the stars, when all he needed was a child?
After Abram poured out his fears, God did not give him a lecture. He gave him a vision. He led Abram outside and invited him to look up. Faith often grows when God lifts our eyes above present limitations and fixes them on eternal possibilities.
God brought Abram out of his tent and instructed him to number the stars. The stars were not decoration; they were divine evidence that God’s word outruns human capacity.
Abram’s situation had not changed. His body was still aging. Sarai was still barren. Yet something shifted internally. “He believed the Lord.” This belief was not mere optimism—it was trust in God’s character. Scripture says this faith was “credited to him as righteousness.” Right standing with God was not earned by achievement but received through trust.
Martin Luther called this moment “the purest picture of justification by faith.” Abram did not produce a child first; he believed first. God responded not to ability but to surrender.
Charles Spurgeon stated that, “Faith is the hand that receives the gift, not the price that buys it.”
God’s pattern remains consistent. He invites us to trust promises that feel larger than our circumstances. He does not always remove obstacles immediately; instead, He strengthens our confidence in His word. When God asks you to “count the stars,” He is calling you to shift from calculation to conviction.
Beloved, remember: Faith does not deny reality. It refuses to let reality define God. Hebrews 11:11 tells us that Abram considered God faithful who had promised. That is the essence of mature belief—anchoring hope in God’s reliability, not in visible progress.
Precious one, this year, just believe in God.
Trust Him beyond what your eyes or circumstances are telling you. And if only you believe, you should see the glory of God (John 11:40)
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD.
- What “impossible” promise am I struggling to believe God for?
- Am I focusing more on my limitations or on God’s faithfulness?
- What step of obedience is God asking me to take today?
PRAYER
Faithful God, lift my eyes above what I see and anchor my heart in what You have spoken. Teach me to trust Your promises even when evidence seems absent. Strengthen my faith and align my life with Your word. I choose to believe You. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
