TOPIC: THE ROOTED HEART
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water.” — Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- What is there to gain trusting in the Lord with all our hearts without leaning on our own understanding?
In contrast to the barren shrub, stands a flourishing tree — rooted, vibrant, enduring. Jeremiah’s imagery is not accidental. The “tree planted by the waters” describes a heart deeply anchored in God’s truth. Its roots reach the unseen streams of grace, drawing life even in seasons of drought.
This heart does not escape heat or hardship — it transcends them. The blessed person still faces trials, but trust transforms them. Where others wither in fear, this heart remains green. Where others panic, it produces fruit.
Thomas à Kempis wrote, “When a man relies upon God, he is strong and steadfast; when he trusts in himself, he falls quickly.”
Precious one, faith is not a feeling of optimism; it is rooted confidence in the faithful character of God. The trusting heart finds peace not because life is easy, but because God is enough.
David knew this well: “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:2–3). Restoration happens when the soul stays near the stream.
Prayer, Scripture, meditation, and worship keep our roots in the flow of divine strength.
What can we do, beloved, to deepen our trust in God and lengthen our roots by the river of many waters?
- Abide: Begin or end each day with ten minutes of silent communion with God.
- Anchor: Memorize Jeremiah 17:7–8 and recite it during anxious moments.
- Act: Extend fruit — perform one quiet act of kindness today as evidence of trust in God’s sufficiency.
Precious one, it is the rooted heart that bears fruits. Its life blesses others. Its stability becomes shade for the weary and nourishment for the hungry. This is the life God intends for you— not flashy, but deeply alive.
Remain blessed
