TOPIC: THE GOOD NEWS WITHOUT BORDERS
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What makes the Gospel truly good news for all people?
Throughout human history, societies have been defined by systems that divide people—the caste system, racial discrimination, social structures, and economic barriers. These divisions have often determined who has access to what – opportunities, privileges, and even basic human necessities... But the good news of Jesus Christ shatters these barriers! Hallelujah. The message of salvation is for all—rich or poor, high or low, Jew or Gentile. The birth of Christ was heaven’s declaration that God’s love knows no borders!
On the night of the Messiah’s birth, the heavens could not contain their joy. A host of jubilant Angels extended their joy and celebration to earth by appearing to some shepherds watching over their flock by night. In the quietness of the night and unknown to these shepherds, the Savior of the world was born in Bethlehem. An Angel bearing good news of the Savior’s birth appeared and they were suddenly surrounded by the glory of God. The shepherds in awe and fear heard a most comforting and refreshing declaration from the Angel “…Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord – Luke 2:10-11.” What followed this declaration was a revelation of celestial glory, a multitude of jubilant heavenly hosts could not hold their joy back but proclaimed “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” What a glorious moment—the birth of the Savior was announced, not to kings or rulers, but to shepherds.
The choice of shepherds as the first recipients of this Good News reveals God’s heart. In Biblical times, shepherds were seen as lowly, undervalued, and insignificant. Yet, in God’s divine wisdom, they were the first to hear of the Savior’s birth. This shows that the gospel is not limited by class, race, or status. It is a message for all people.
Dearly beloved in Christ, during this Lenten season, let us reflect on the good news— "Unto you, O reader of today’s devotional, is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord.” Thus, to you, a Savior has been made available.
No matter what is happening in your life, if you only call upon your Savior, you shall be saved, helped, or delivered. O, what a joy to have a Savior in life. You are covered if you receive and follow Him.
