TOPIC: TRUSTING THE LORD

THEME SCRIPTURE: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” – Isaiah 26:3

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. What does it mean to be kept in perfect peace?

In response to the disciples' question about the signs of His second coming, and the end of the age, Jesus pointed out several troubling events. He spoke of wars and rumors of wars. He highlighted the chaotic and turbulent nature of the end times. Jesus stated “… nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places (Mathew 24:7).” The current state of global affairs, coupled with its inherent challenges locally, have the potential to induce panic. There seems to be one calamity after the other on a daily basis and it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the uncertainties around us.  Thoughts on the safety and comfort of the family are at the forefront of every  parent’s action and inaction.

What should be the Christian’s response to all these convulsions in our world today?

In Isaiah 26, God assures Judah of a better future regardless of what they will go through. He assured that on that day Judah will be a strong city appointing salvation for walls and bulwarks (Isa 26:1). He promises “To keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” The emphasis on the kind of peace implies the peace that penetrates all aspects of one’s life no matter the prevailing situation. God's faithfulness in preserving the believer's peace is unequivocal.

Regardless of the severity of the challenges in our world today, God affirms His ability to keep His children in perfect peace.

It is crucial to acknowledge that this promised peace is a result of placing one's trust in the Lord. Such perfect peace is assured for those whose minds are focused on God, and trusting only in Him in all situations. Important to highlight here is what trusting in God does to the believer: “Those who trust in the Lord, are as mount Zion which cannot be moved but abides forever (Psalm 125:1).” Whether rain or sun, the godly in Christ is unfazed because he or she is anchored in God.

Beloved in Christ Jesus, there is the likelihood of being overwhelmed by the challenges in our world, the likelihood that the children are not turning out the way you expected, you may have lost your job, and your family may be going through a very turbulent season. Trusting in God at all times is the most important thing to perfect His peace in your heart in a troubled world.

The assurance of continual peace in the midst of life's storms rests solely on placing your trust in God alone.

The Psalmist reminds us where to look to when hope seems to elude us “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1).” No matter the situation you find yourself in now, continue trusting God and He will deliver relief and blessings to you, with continual peace that transcends human understanding. Trusting in God is your license to peace that never ends. God bless you.
