PREPARATORY QUESTION
- Does God answer prayers?
Hannah, in the anguish of her soul, arrived at the Tabernacle of worship. She could only access the outer court of the temple, where many were coming and going. The outer court was no place to offer loud but private prayers. So, Hannah had no opportunity for audible petitioning before God. This did not stop Hannah. Her heart prayed and only her lips moved, but there was no sound. This shows that in the midst of the crowd, we can still have intimacy with God, and He who sees the heart, will hear our heart's cry.
Though people were coming and going, Hannah continued to pray. Eli spotted her and wrongly judged her, yet she continued to pray. The priest of God jumped to a hasty conclusion, but Hannah prayed on.
Pray on, beloved. Your God is not asleep. Pray on, though your petition seems humanly impossible. Pray on and don't stop there. Though heart and flesh fail with anguish, pray on. Pray on, because you are being heard. The Supreme One is attentive to your cry. Pray! Pray! Pray! I say pray! And keep praying! For God will yet raise the poor from the dust and the beggar from the dunghill, to make them sit with princes, and inherit thrones of glory. Beloved, pray on! For He has said, "...before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear" (Isa 65:24). Pray on, beloved!
When you have committed your cause to God, now go in peace and be sad no more. It is of faith to trust that you have been heard, and your countenance is proof of your faith.
Having cast your burden unto Him, you should have no more of this burden on your side of the table. Truly, if we can speak into His ears, a book of remembrance will be written before Him on our behalf (Mal 3:16). And God remembered Hannah, and she conceived and brought forth.
According to our theme scripture, Hannah made a powerful assertion. She said, "For this child, I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him."
Yeah, this one, I didn't work for it. I prayed, and God, in His mercies, has given me my petition. It is not my effort; it is an act of God. Precious one, if only you can pray, and pray on, you will be given your petition this day.
Remain blessed.
