TOPIC: CONFIDENCE
THEME SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:3
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- When we talk about confidence in life what do we mean?
- Is it wrong to feel secure because of the properties and opportunities God has given us?
It is said that the most beautiful suit anyone can wear is confidence. Confidence in life is so important. Without confidence, mankind wouldn’t have advanced in knowledge and our actions would have lacked audacity. A man without confidence in life is like a dead fish which is easily carried about by the current of the waters.
Confidence is the assurance (sureness) we draw from other things to reinforce our boldness and audacity in life.
Confidence can affect your way of talking, thinking, walking and the way you socialize. Everyone needs confidence
As Christians, we are to walk in confidence daily. To do that, we must answer the question – ‘where should we draw our confidence from’? In the world, where men have no God, they have no choice but to draw their confidence from things that have no eternal value such as money, position, career, properties, power, etc. They walk and talk boldly because they have assumed that their money or power will speak for them when nothing else can.
As a child of God, your confidence cannot be founded on things that have no eternal value. One of the most profound revelations in scripture is that any time God wants to instruct a man to do something with confidence, He first introduces Himself saying, ‘I am the Lord your God’. In some instances He adds a few of His credentials (or what He has done in the past), all to give that man an assurance for confidence. An example is recorded in Psalm 81:10.
Precious One, God’s word constantly reminds us that He is our Rock and fortress, our Shepherd and defender. He is our life and length of days. All these assurances are to enable us build our confidence on Him and in Him.
This is why speaking to the Philippian believers, Apostle Paul reminded us that we (who are born of God) are the real circumcision (and not the Jews). We are the ones who worship God in the Spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh (or temporal things that have no eternal value). This is our profile in Christ, and this profile should give you boldness enough for any endeavour.
The biggest mistake we can make, as children of God, is to put confidence in the flesh. This is because the grace of God cannot function in the life of a man whose security is in the flesh.
God may give you a house, but it does not mean make it your confidence. Rather, make the one who gave you the house your confidence. Has God graced you with social networks, or good marriage or a career? Make Him your confidence and He will give you more.
Precious One, the world is passing away with all its desires but the one who depends on God (by doing His will) abides forever (1 John 2:17). From today going forward, you are entering into corridors no man thought you could and you are taking territories that seemed impossible. You are doing exploits from today onward because God is your confidence henceforth, and also you are the one who worships God in the Spirit and has no confidence in the flesh. Glory to God!

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- How confident and how dependent are you on God’s word in your daily activities?
CONFESSION
Precious Father, thank you for being my confidence in life. I affirm that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I confess that God is my source and my all. So then, from now on, I have a new perspective that refuses to evaluate people and things by their outward appearance but by God’s Spirit who dwells in me. Hallelujah1
