TOPIC: BRING HIM TO ME
THEME SCRIPTURE: “He answered him, and said, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.” - Mark 9:19
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Can we bring all our problems to Jesus?
Jesus had left nine of his disciples down the mountain but taking Peter, John and James with Him to the mount of Transfiguration (Mark 9:2). Returning with these three disciples to the others, He encountered a great multitude with the scribes questioning them (Mark 9:14). Jesus, knowing that His disciples are under tutelage, asked the scribes, "What are you asking them" (Mark 9:16)? Interestingly, nobody answers the Master until one of the multitudes responds, "Master, I have brought to you my son who has a dumb spirit" (Mark 9:17). Since Jesus was not around, this man went ahead to say that , "...and I spoke to your disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not" (Mark 9:18).
Precious one, Jesus was not impressed by the fact that His disciples could not cast out the dumb spirit. He voices out his despair: "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?"
Jesus steps in to change the narrative. He instructs the father of this possessed boy, "Bring him to me" (Mark 9:19).
Immediately Jesus saw the boy, the evil spirit begun to stage his last show. So the boy started to wallow and foam at the mouth (Mark 9:20). The father of the boy desperately tells Jesus, "If you can do anything, have compassion and help us” (Mark 9:22). Whatever faith by which this man brought the son to Jesus might have dissipated by the failure of the disciples.
But Jesus reminds him of the importance of maintaining faith whenever we come to Him (Mark 9:23).
Beloved, all Jesus needed to do was to rebuke the evil spirit and immediately the spirit started to cry. Tearing the boy for the last time, the dumb spirit came out (Mark 9:25-26). This is remarkable. Everybody around thought the boy was dead, seeing how peaceful he was lying still on the ground. But Jesus reached out and took the boy by the hand, lifted him and he stood up (Mark 9:27).
Precious one, why will you live with your frustrations and struggles in life? Bring them to Jesus. No one comes to Him and returns the same.
Are you in need of a Savior to turn a new leaf in your life? Come to Jesus. Are you heavy ladened, such that living the life you have has become a burden? Bring it to Jesus. Come and He will have compassion on you. Come because He alone has your solution. Come with faith, trusting that once you encounter Jesus, the narrative will change for good. Bring them all to Him today and He will help you. Remain blessed.
