TOPIC: THE LORD SEEKS FRUITS OF THEE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, behold, these three years I come seeking fruits on this fig tree and find none: cut it down; why cumber it the ground?” – Luke 13:6
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why is the fig tree not bearing fruits for the owner?
It is often the case that, as believers, we are quick to talk about our translation from darkness into light. But little is said or known about what God requires of us. We are quick to state that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people. But less is said or known about the fact that God seeks fruits from us. The ultimate aim of God was not just to save you and me but to make us results-producing sons and daughters of God.
Hence, God has saved us but has also called us (to serve) with an holy calling (2 Tim 1:9).
Jesus has said that He will build His church (the body of believers), and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matt 16:18). The builder of the church seeks fruits from His people year by year. Our theme scripture points it out to us clearly, as do other scriptures. Jesus gave a parable of a man who had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. For three years, this man sought fruits from the fig tree, but the tree showed no sign of fruitfulness (Luke 13:6-9).
He then sought to cut the fig tree down because he thought it to be unuseful.
Precious One, we have been rid out of the hands of the devil; we have been planted in the kingdom of God. We have been saved to be God’s children but also servants of the Father’s kingdom. The opportunity to serve in the Father’s kingdom was given to us when Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and on earth. Now, go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28:18-19). The more we avoid the great commission of our Lord, the more we curtail our own fruitfulness. The reason is that, “the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). Think of it this way: God’s agenda is to raise a new generation of the God-kind out of fallen humankind. Similar to what He showed the prophet Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones. God has chosen to do it with us, so He said, “I am the vine and you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in Him, the same brings forth much fruits” (John 15:5).
The one who abides in Christ and wins souls, the same is wise and fruitful to the Lord.
Precious one, it is not fruitful to say of you: I am a businessman for Jesus or I am a carpenter for Jesus. In the kingdom of heaven, God needs no carpentry work but soul-winners. So, let your carpentry work be a means of winning souls. Likewise, you, who are a nurse, extend the love of Christ to your patients and win them for Him. Let the marketer market products and also Jesus to the world. Every year, the Lord comes seeking the fruits of His fig trees. This year, He will come seeking our fruits. In all that you do, win a soul for Christ; be fruitful. Hallelujah!
