TOPIC: HIS DIVINE POWER
THEME SCRIPTURE: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” – 2 Peter 1:3
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What can you do to live a victorious life?
The Bible does not promise Christians an easy life. From biblical times to the present, living a holy Christian life has been challenging. Distractions and temptations are all around us constantly. These are able to derail holiness. Every Christian knows the struggle of giving in to sinful desires we hate while neglecting the good scripture enjoins (Romans 7:15–20). When we realize that as Christians, we can do anything, but we must choose what edifies us (1 Corinthians 10:23), the challenge increases.
We compromise easily because the world's system tempts us.
The Apostle Peter addresses his second letter “to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.” This emphasizes that the early Christians' salvation was the same as that of later generations. It's encouraging to know that if the crowd of witnesses who went ahead to be with the Lord made it, we can too by faith in Christ Jesus. "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness," Peter concludes. It is important to note that the life here is the one in Christ and not any other. He assures Christians that Christ's unlimited conquering power makes all things related to life in him and godliness available to them. The ‘all things’ here have no limitation; he means all things. God provides everything Christians need to walk in holiness through Christ Jesus. It's important to note that divine power requires "knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence."
The more a Christian studies the holy scriptures, the more likely they are to live holy.
Dear friend, despite how tempting the world is, Christians have no excuse to sin. God has provided all things in Christ for our progressive sanctification. Accessing the divine supply to walk in holiness can help us live a glorious and excellent life.
Christians can trust that God will help them overcome sin in their daily lives despite the obvious difficulty of being holy.
Are you struggling with sin, beloved in Christ? Have you lost the fight to cut corners at the workplace? Have you given in to pornography? Is lying your habit? Do you get angry at the slightest provocation? Are you having a hard time forgiving? Do you lack discipline? Have you repented of fornication or adultery many times but still committed it? Are you giving up on holiness? The only way to overcome sin is to study the perfect law of liberty to learn more about Christ Jesus. The Bible says, “And we all, with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 2:18).” Paul’s heart's cry was to know the Lord Jesus. May Jesus enlighten you as you seek to know him through his word. May He empower you to overcome sin and live a life of glory and excellence to praise his name. Amen.
