TOPIC: IF TWO OF YOU SHALL AGREE

THEME SCRIPTURE: Matt 18:19

 PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why do people struggle to team up to achieve a common goal?
  2. What advantages does teamwork bring?

Language, for centuries, has united people. Without language, collaborations would be difficult. This is why international students are required to learn host-country languages before they can take their courses. This enables foreigners to integrate well. Many people feel good, and understand better when you speak to them in their language. In Shinar, the people of the earth gathered together in unity towards one purpose - to build the world’s tallest tower. (Gen 11:1-2). Their objective was to make a name for themselves (Gen 11:4). Even though this objective was against God’s plan of filling the entire earth with mankind, He attested to one fact- the people are one because of their common language. Therefore there’s nothing they can’t achieve (Gen 11:5-6).

This suggests that if two people shall agree on earth (to think, say and do a common thing), they will achieve their goal, even if it is against God's will (Matt 18:19).

Unity starts with a common language. In our homes if we can’t say the same thing, do the same or pursue the same goal, that family won’t endure or achieve anything meaningful. The same applies to our communities, churches, nation, etc. This is why Apostle Paul admonished that we speak the same thing and avoid divisions, being joined together perfectly (1 Cor 1:10). This is the only way the body of Christ, godly families and nations can achieve great feats. No matter what we do individually, the fact remains - two are better than one (Eccl 4:9).

When God visited the project in Shinar, He mentioned that nothing can stop them except one weapon - diversity of language (a divided tongue). A divided tongue brings confusion (Gen 11:7).

In prayer, David used the weapon of a 'divided tongue’ against his enemies often (Psalm 55:9). Similarly, the devil knows how to use a divided tongue against God’s people.

In homes, husband and wife who are to agree, are rather competing with each other. In our churches, pastors who are to team up to shepherd God’s flock are competing with each other. In our nation, politicians who are to work together, are using propaganda to destroy each other. In the end, men and women who are full of the Holy Ghost and power, achieve nothing meaningful in this life.

On the other hand, heaven is waiting to answer the desires and bring to pass the plans of any two of God’s people who choose to agree regarding anything on earth. This is why it is better to agree with somebody to pray about a matter that is crucial than to pray alone.

Precious one, from today going forward, choose to live above divisions. Do not be associated with any form of divisiveness. Rather, you are encouraging teamwork wherever you show up. You are bringing together this day families, friends, loved ones, partners, etc. who have lost their agreement. Hallelujah!

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Are there any divisions in your life – family, church, workplace, friends, etc.?
  2. What are you going to do about it, if your answer is yes?

CONFESSION

Precious Father, I receive grace today to walk in agreement with all those I work with. I resign from being a lone crusader in this life. I affirm that at the family level, work level and in my community, we are all in consonant with the will of God. Our plans and purposes are progressing as we work together to the glory of God. Nothing is impossible for me as I work in agreement with God and all those who are associated with my objectives. Glory to Jesus!
