TOPIC: LOVE THAT HOLDS NOTHING BACK 

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then she stood behind him at his feet weeping... she kissed them and poured perfume on them.” — Luke 7:38 (NIV)

 

PREPARATORY QUESTION 

1. Is your love for Christ growing deeper, or has your devotion become casual and restrained?

 

 

 

 

A dinner at Simon the Pharisee’s house took an unexpected turn when a woman known for her sinful life entered the room. She brought no words of defense and offered no explanation for her past. Instead, she knelt at the feet of Jesus with tears, wiped His feet with her hair, kissed them repeatedly, and poured expensive perfume upon them.

 

While others saw only her past, Jesus saw a heart that had been transformed by grace.

 

Simon quietly questioned why Jesus would allow such a woman to touch Him. In response, Jesus told a parable about two debtors who had been forgiven different amounts. His point was unmistakable: those who recognize the greatness of God’s forgiveness will love Him deeply.

 

The woman’s extravagant worship was not an attempt to earn forgiveness. It was the joyful response of someone who had already encountered the mercy of God. Her love flowed from a heart that understood the magnitude of grace.

 

Our love for Christ revives when we remember what Christ has done for us. It is easy for devotion to become routine when we lose sight of the depth of our need and the greatness of His mercy. A revived heart never outgrows gratitude. It continues to marvel that the holy Son of God would forgive sinners, restore the broken, and welcome the undeserving. 

 

This encounter also challenges our tendency to evaluate people by their history rather than by God’s transforming work in their lives. Jesus specializes in restoring those whom others have written off. His grace reaches where human judgment cannot.

 

 When our hearts are captivated by Christ’s love, worship ceases to be a duty and becomes a delight. Service is no longer driven by obligation but by gratitude. Obedience becomes the natural expression of a life that has been overwhelmed by His mercy.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the immeasurable grace You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times my love for You has grown cold or familiar. Fill my heart with fresh gratitude for Your mercy and let my worship flow from genuine devotion. Teach me to love You wholeheartedly and to extend the same grace to others that You have so generously shown to me. May my life be marked by joyful obedience, humble worship, and a heart revived by Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
