TOPIC: THE HAND AND HEART THAT GIVES
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Bring the following as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, bronze, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goat hair, ram skins dyed red, and acacia wood…” — Exodus 25:2–3
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- Why did God, who is the owner of all things, ask His people for material things?
As the Israelites prepared to build the tabernacle, God instructed them to bring offerings— materials, resources, and skills —for the holy work. The call to give was not optional. It was participation in God’s plan.
Notice the principle: God’s provision often comes through obedience and generosity. Giving was not simply a financial act; it was a spiritual posture. Each contribution, whether large or small, was an expression of trust in God’s faithfulness.
The people responded with overwhelming generosity. Exodus 35:29 tells us they brought so much that Moses had to tell them to stop.
Giving requires trust. It requires letting go of control and believing that God can and will provide for our needs. It also invites partnership: God asks His people to play a role in His work, to invest what they have into His kingdom.
But interestingly, before God asked Israel to bring Him an offering, He had first given them favor before the Egyptians. By this favor, they had the gold, silver, and all. When God asks, it is because He had supplied already.
Beloved, this principle echoes in the New Testament. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 9:6–8 that God loves a cheerful giver and is able to provide abundantly. Giving is both an act of faith and a means of grace—what we release in obedience becomes a channel for God’s provision to others.
Sometimes we hesitate to give because we fear scarcity. The story of the Tabernacle in the wilderness teaches us that obedience opens the door to abundance. God honors hearts that trust Him enough to act.
Precious one, faith expressed through generosity aligns us with God’s plan and allows His work— and His glory —to be revealed in the world.
Key Takeaway
God’s provision often flows through our obedience and generosity.
Today, as you step out, trust Him enough to give, and watch how He multiplies it for His purposes.
Remain blessed.
