TOPIC: KEEPING CHRIST IN THE CHRISTMAS

THEME SCRIPTURE: “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” — Colossians 1:17

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why is it important to keep the Lord Jesus at the center of our Christmas?

Christmas does not begin with tradition, lights, or generosity; it begins with Christ. Remove Him, and the season loses its meaning. Without Him, there is no Christmas —only sentiment without substance.

The birth of Jesus is not an accessory to the season; it is the center that gives the season life.

The early fathers understood the essence of Christmas, but do we? Christmas celebrates the humility of God entering our broken world —not to be admired from a distance, but to be embodied in daily life. If Christ is truly at the center of the season, then His Spirit must shape our actions.

That Spirit is unmistakable: love that sacrifices, peace that reconciles, grace that moves toward the hurting. A restless, divided heart cannot celebrate Christ honestly. Families locked in conflict, relationships fractured by pride, and grudges nursed in silence stand in contradiction to the message of Bethlehem. Reconciliation is not optional to Christmas; it is essential.

John Chrysostom pressed this truth further: “If you cannot find Christ in the beggar at the church door, you will not find Him in the chalice.”

The Christ of Christmas is found among the desperate, the struggling, and the forgotten. To honor His birth is to move toward those in pain with practical compassion—not as a seasonal gesture, but as a Christ-shaped way of life.

Keeping Christ in Christmas means refusing hollow celebration. It means making room—real room—for forgiveness, generosity, humility, and peace with all people (Romans 12:18).

The manger calls us to live differently because God has come near.

This season, beloved, if you have not extended your meal to the hungry and the needy, it is not too late. You may have received so many gifts; show kindness and redistribute some to the vulnerable and the forgotten. Put a smile on someone's face, love in someone's heart, and a testimony of God's goodness in someone's mouth.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. In what ways might my celebration of Christmas drift from Christ Himself?
  1. Is there a relationship I need to mend to honor the Prince of Peace?
  1. Who around me needs tangible love and attention this season?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, center my heart where the world seeks to distract it. Teach me to honor Your birth not only with words, but with a life marked by love, reconciliation, and mercy. Make me a bearer of Your peace to the hurting and the broken. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
