TOPIC: THE SHEPHERD WHO GOES BEFORE YOU

THEME SCRIPTURE: “He walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they recognize his voice.” — John 10:4

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. What does it mean to have a Shepherd who goes before you in life?

There is a profound assurance embedded in this verse—Jesus goes ahead of us. He does not send us into unknowns alone. Whether we are facing uncertain decisions, walking through suffering, or simply navigating the mundane, He leads the way.

Unlike hired hands who abandon the sheep at the first sign of danger (John 10:12–13), Jesus, the Good Shepherd, walks before us. He prepares the path, clears obstacles, and shields us from unseen harm.

Our confidence, therefore, isn’t in our own navigation skills—it’s in our proximity to the One who leads

But following Christ is not passive. It requires attentiveness to His voice. We must abide (John 15:4), remain in fellowship with Him, and resist being led by fear, pressure, or ambition.

When we walk behind Christ, peace becomes possible, even in chaos. The Shepherd knows every turn ahead—because He’s already been there.

Practically applying this truth would mean that:

  • Before every decision, pause and pray: “Lord, where are You leading?”
  • Let Scripture lead you before circumstances do.
  • Silence competing voices (social media, anxiety, people-pleasing) that try to rush you ahead of the Shepherd.
  • Write down how God has gone before you in past seasons—it builds trust for the present.

Precious One, the call of God to you today is this: Be at ease, because He is before you. Do all you can to walk behind Him; that is your safety, progress, and peace.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. In what area of life do I feel I’m walking alone?
  1. Have I asked where Jesus is leading?
  1. How can I cultivate more awareness of His voice today?

PRAYER

Jesus, You are the Shepherd who never sends me where You haven’t already gone. Teach me to slow down and follow. Quicken my ear to hear Your voice, and give me grace to trust Your lead—even when the way is unclear. In Jesus’  precious name, Amen.
