TOPIC: THE DISCIPLINE OF REMEMBERING
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” — Psalm 103:2
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Can a man who is sustained by God forget Him and His benefits?
Spiritual amnesia is a quiet thief. It doesn’t arrive with a shout, but with a subtle fading of memory. One moment we’re celebrating an answered prayer; the next, we’re doubting whether God hears us at all. That’s why the psalmist doesn’t just praise God—he commands his soul: “Forget not”. Thus, the psalmist disciplines himself to remember the Lord his God.
Remembering is not passive. It’s a discipline. A choice. A fight against forgetfulness, anxiety, and ungratefulness.
When Israel forgot God’s works, they fell into idolatry and rebellion (Psalm 106:7, 13). But when they remembered, worship and obedience followed.
God instituted feasts, memorial stones, and altars—not for His sake, but ours. Each one served as a tangible reminder: “God has been faithful, and He will be faithful again.”
Beloved, we must build similar rhythms in our lives. Write down in your diary God’s interventions. Share testimonies aloud. Mark moments of breakthrough. Remind your soul who God has been—so it can trust who He is.
St. Augustine wrote, “Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to His love, and the future to His providence.”
Precious one, remembering what God has done fuels our confidence in what He will yet do. When you face today’s uncertainty, do not begin at your fear. Begin at your history with God. Trace the thread of His faithfulness through your life. Let remembrance become your resistance to doubt and ungrateful to God.
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. What specific “benefits” of the Lord do I tend to forget?
2. How can I create reminders of God’s past faithfulness in my daily life?
3. Am I training my soul to remember or to react?
PRAYER
Father, thank You for every mercy You’ve shown me. Help me to discipline my heart to remember. In moments of doubt, remind me of Your past faithfulness. In seasons of fear, anchor me in all You’ve already done. Teach me to bless You, not only in the moment, but in memory. May remembering guard my worship and strengthen my walk. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
