TOPIC: THE WISDOM OF PAYING ATTENTION
THEME SCRIPTURE: "Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding." — Proverbs 3:13
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. What is wisdom, and how is understanding profitable?
Wisdom isn’t merely about lofty truths; it often shows up in the ordinary, daily choices we make. Wisdom invites us to slow down, to notice, to respond rightly to what matters in life before it becomes unmanageably big issue.
A dead car battery due to overlooking the little light left on in the car may be a small inconvenience, but it illustrates a deeper truth: small issues, left unattended, become bigger burdens.
The book of Proverbs repeatedly urges attentiveness: “Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways” (Proverbs 4:26). When we neglect the discipline of discernment, we risk greater troubles down the road—whether in relationships, finances, or spiritual health.
St. Augustine once said, “It is better to limp along the right path than to run with all our might the wrong way.” That "right path" requires daily wisdom and understanding. Like the mother who overlooked small lies in her children who eventually became pathetic liars, we must recognize the cost of ignoring what appears minor but is spiritually significant.
Wisdom doesn’t just help us solve problems; it helps us prevent them.
The pursuit of understanding is not about anxiety or perfectionism, but about peace.“Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace”(Proverbs 3:17). God’s wisdom equips us to prioritize rightly—to see what needs our attention and what can be left alone.
Don’t let busyness rob you of insight.
Wisdom is not loud, but she is present—inviting us to listen. Not everything demands our attention, but some—especially the quiet compromises, the neglect of your soul's needs, your family, etc. Today, ask God for the wisdom to see those little issues which are vital. And God, who gives wisdom generously to those who ask (James 1:5), is eager to help you discern what truly matters today. Let wisdom guide your gaze and understanding shape your steps.
Remain blessed
