TOPIC: SEEING BEYOND THE PRICE TAG
THEME SCRIPTURE: “The rich and the poor have this in common: The Lord made them both.” ~ Proverbs 22:2
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. What does it mean for every man to have the same Creator?
In 1999, Kevin Brown was the ace pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. That season, Brown started 35 games. His salary for that year was $10,714,286. Assuming that he threw, on average, 100 pitches per game, he earned over $3,000 every time he threw a pitch in earnest! For comparison, a young man earning minimum wage in 1999 needed to work approximately 600 hours to earn the same amount. Rich man, poor man! Yet Proverbs 22:2 strips away society’s labels: rich or poor, we share the same Creator. Our bank accounts don’t define our worth. To God, we are equally loved, equally called, and equally needed in His redemptive story.
Meet Maria, a tech CEO who grew up in poverty. When her startup succeeded, she refused to forget her roots. She launched a mentorship program for underprivileged youth, pairing them with professionals in their fields. “I’m not ‘self-made,’” she says. “God surrounded me with people who lifted me. Now it’s my turn.” Her initiative reflects Christ’s heart: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act” (Proverbs 3:27).
Timothy Keller wrote, “The gospel humbles the rich and elevates the poor, reminding both that their true identity is in Christ.” Mother Teresa added, “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” When we see others as God’s image-bearers, compassion replaces comparison.
Beloved, what must we do to see beyond the price tag from henceforth?
First, we must check our lens: pray, “God, show me where I’ve valued wealth over worth,” and let God reveal to you your true lens. Further, acknowledge biases—whether envy of the rich or disdain for the poor.
Also, give intentionally and love unconditionally. You see someone who is down? Mentor someone to become better. Small acts dismantle walls.
Beloved, God’s economy flips the script: the homeless man and the CEO both bear His image. When we live like we believe that, heaven’s light pierces earth’s divide.
According to C. S. Lewis, "There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.”
And as the Scripture says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition, but in humility consider others better than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). The world ranks us—Jesus calls us family. Live like it.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. How have you been measuring your self-worth all this while?
2. Do you like to compare yourself with others?
PRAYER
Father, break my heart for what breaks Yours. Help me see others not as projects or rivals, but as family—fearfully made by You. Guide me to love boldly, give joyfully, and live as a bridge of Your grace, in Jesus' precious name. Hallelujah!
