TOPIC: THE WOUNDED SAVIOR
THEME SCRIPTURE: "By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities” (Isaiah 53:11)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. What does it mean to be justified?
Centuries before Jesus’ birth, Isaiah painted a haunting portrait of the Messiah: a “guilt offering” (Isa 53-10) crushed for our rebellion. This prophecy, fulfilled at Calvary, reveals a staggering truth—your sins were placed on Christ so His righteousness could be placed on you. The phrase “by His knowledge” in our theme scripture doesn’t mean intellectual ascent but intimate surrender—trusting that His sacrifice alone justifies man.
Theologian R.C. Sproul wrote, “Jesus didn’t die just to make us safe; He died to make us holy.” On the cross, Christ absorbed God’s wrath against sin (Romans 3:25-26) so we could be declared “not guilty.” His wounds purchased our wholeness. Glory to God!
Chrystal Evans Hurst, daughter of pastor Tony Evans, once wrestled with shame from past mistakes. She wrote, “When I grasped that Jesus bore my specific sins—my lies, my pride—it shattered me. His scars weren’t generic; they had my name.”
Precious one, what does it mean for you that Christ paid all the wages of your sins?
First, it means your debt is canceled. “He bore the sin of many” (Isa 53-12). Like a judge paying your fine, Jesus took your penalty. Is there any guilt you are carrying today? Reflect and fish out any guilt you’re carrying. Pray, “Jesus, I release this to Your cross.”
Additionally, it means your identity has been rewritten. -"Justify” means" decared righteous.” You’re not improved, precious one—you've been reborn (2 Corinthians 5:21). “God doesn’t love us because we’re valuable. We’re valuable because God loves us.” —Tim Keller
Lastly, know that your purpose Is secured. The cross wasn’t the end—“He will see His offspring” Isa 53-10). You are Christ’s legacy.
Beloved, during this Lenten season, let's remember that Isaiah 53 isn’t ancient history—it’s your eternal receipt. Every lie, every failure, every secret shame was nailed to the cross. “It is finished” (John 19:30) means “You are free.” Walk in that truth.
“Christ’s death is the only transaction that can set a sinner free.” —Charles Spurgeon
The same God who foretold the cross holds your future. You are justified, known, and loved. Live like it.
God bless you more.
