TOPIC: HEALING THE HEART'S OLD WOUNDS
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger… Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:31-32, NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. How should a Christian treat and heal old wounds from hurt and pain?
Old wounds fester when we feed them with resentment. Like embers in dry wood, bitterness ignites a blaze that scorches our peace. But the fire of anger doesn’t purify—it destroys. Jesus offers a better way: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Your pain is valid, but it’s not your identity.
Amnon raped Tamar, Absalom's sister. David refused to confront the matter. Absalom pretended everything was okay.
For 2 years, Absalom nursed the pain of her sister's abuse. For that long, Absalom murdered Amnon out of hatred. Beloved, untreated pain and hurt can hurt you badly. If old wounds are not treated, they will turn into destructive cancers. How should we approach wounds in life as Christians? How should we approach our healing when we get hurt?
Naming the wound is critical if we are going to get healed, precious one.
You're hurt, right? Be sincere with yourself. Holding hurt in the dark gives it power; bringing it into God’s light begins healing (Psalm 147:3). Additionally, we will need to exchange revenge for release. Definitely, revenge will come to mind whenever we get hurt. But remember Romans 12:19: "Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, 'says the Lord." Instead of vengeance, pray, “Jesus, I surrender my right to repay this pain. Replace my anger with Your peace.” Forgiveness isn’t excusing harm—it’s freeing yourself from its grip.
Lastly, seek sacred connections in the community.
Share your struggle with a trusted believer. Scripture admonishes that we “Carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Isolation fuels bitterness; connection kindles hope.
You are not defined by what broke you. God’s promise remains: “I will restore you… and rebuild you” (Jeremiah 30:17). Today, choose one step toward healing—even a small one. The fire that once consumed can become the warmth of renewed purpose. Let grace extinguish the flames of pain.
Remain blessed.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. Is there any pain in your life you have not dealt with?
2. Would you do something about it today?
PRAYER
Father, this wound still burns. I receive your help today to lay it at Your feet. Where I crave revenge, I plant compassion; where I rehearse hurt, remind me of Your mercy toward me. Make my heart a garden, not a battlefield, in Jesus's precious name. Hallelujah!
