TOPIC: LOVE IS OF GOD

THEME SCRIPTURE: "Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and everyone that loves is born of God, and knows God1 John 4:7

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Is true love real?
  2. What then is love?

If you have to describe the whole Christian faith with just one word what will it be? It sure has to be the word ‘love’. Christianity is God reaching out to hopeless mankind, and this God is love. This is the reason John (the beloved) wrote saying, “this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and slew his brother…” (1 John 3:11).

Today is Love’s day and year after year our society is getting concerned about how we celebrate this day. Valentine’s Day has been more of business and exploitation of one another. Such that one will wonder whether we understand love at all. What is love?

Love is accurate knowledge; true valuing. Thus, true love has an accurate knowledge of the intrinsic value placed in every human, and the need to treat people by this value.

How will you treat your diamond necklace compared to your copper necklace? You will never manhandle the diamond necklace. But on valentine’s days, men and women treat each other as Cain, who was of the wicked one and therefore slew his own brother. Many people shudder when they hear you talk to them about love. The reason is that people, whom they invested trust in their love, slew them as Cain did to Abel. The world’s definition of love is untrue. The world’s definition of love is profiting on the back of another person who is created in the image of God. If only we knew the worth of each other, love celebration would be honoring, appreciative, sacrificing for others’ good and revealing Jesus.

To give is the highest pleasure of true love. Love is interested in giving rather than exploiting. Today, do all you can to give to another, expecting nothing.

For God so loved the world that He gave… (John 3:16). The greatest wonder of all time is when love gave His all to mankind. Mankind was deemed undeserving of love but love saw value in us. Precious One, do you see value in yourself and do you see value in others? When a man does not see absolute value in himself, he seeks to exploit others in his quest to increase his value. The inverse is true. If a man sees absolute value in himself, he gives value to others. This day we are showing outwardly the value we see inside others. Isn’t this beautiful?

The greatest tragedy of life is to come to the end of life without knowing Jesus. But the second greatest tragedy of life is to come to the end of life, not having told those you love that you deeply love them.

Today, tell those you love that you truly love them. Appreciate all those who God has brought your way.

Beloved in Christ, love is pure; love is sincere. It does not seek its own and thinks no evil. Even though God’s word brought creation into being, three things sustain it – hope, faith and love. In the dimension of hope, there are innumerable laws. In the dimension of faith also there are laws. It is only in the dimension of love that there's no law but one – the law of love as a singular principle. Love, truly, is the supreme ethic. The one who truly loves is born of God and also knows God; love is of God. God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What are your plans today? (If you don’t have one, make one).

CONFESSION

Precious Father, thank you for what you have made me and the value you have placed in me. I affirm that from today my life is seeking the interest of others, to help them realize their true value in this life. It shall be said of me “we thank God that your path crossed ours”. Hallelujah!
