TOPIC: USE HIS NAME - ‘JESUS’
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.” – Acts 4:10
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What is in the name of Jesus
“What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.”
William Shakespeare uses this line in his play Romeo and Juliet to convey that the naming of things is irrelevant. However, when it comes to the name of Jesus and spiritual realities, can this statement be true?
The name ‘Jesus’ was the secret of the early church's miracles. Peter and John healed a man lame from his mother’s womb at the temple gate (Acts 3:2). Peter said to this man, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” (Acts 3:6). You know what? The man rose and walked away. Jesus, many times, pointed to the disciples to use His name to their advantage. He said to them, “Whatever you will ask the Father in my name, He will give it to you” (John 16:23). Again, He said to them, “These signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils…” (Mark 16:17).
From the perspective of scripture, a person’s name stood for his nature, personality, authority, or power. Thus, the name you bear reveals not only its meaning but also your character and essence.
For instance, Judas, as a name, had been a beautiful one until Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus. In scripture, the name of God is synonymous with His presence (1 Kings 8:16). Jesus sent his disciples to preach and heal in His name, and in Acts, Peter and John were arrested for healing the lame man at the Beautiful Gate. Standing before the Sanhedrin, Peter and John made it clear that the healing of the lame was by a name, and that name is ‘Jesus’. But how can a name produce such a marvellous result?
Beloved, wherever the name ‘Jesus’ is mentioned, His presence is invoked. He shows up at the mention of the name, and once He is present, every knee bows and superior things happen.
So, use the name when you pray, and the heavens would not deny you your request. Use the name when the enemy comes against you and His presence will be there to deter him. Beloved, use the name and His authority will be revealed on your behalf. Use the name because the name of the Lord is a strong tower. By the name, you are able to run through troops and leap over walls and barriers of human and demonic limitations. That name is 'Jesus'! Use it in faith and you will unleash the power in the name. Remain blessed.
