TOPIC: GO FOR THE WORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?” - Numbers 23:19
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Can God be trusted as One who will always honor His word?
It is remarkable to read the scriptures and realize that any time God wants to instruct or speak to His people concerning His future intentions, He begins with the statement, “I am the Lord” (Gen 17:1).
He first introduces His person and character to remind us who He is and His commitment to His word. This is enough to put your entire trust in God, who has both the capability and the commitment to honor His word.
Remember, God had spoken to Abraham and made it clear to him that He'd blessed him, and his seed would multiply like the sand by the seashore. Truly, the children of Israel multiplied in Egypt, and the Pharaoh at that time could not be comfortable. When Israel left Egypt, they were a multitude, and their number was enough to make the king of Moab worry (Num 22:3). So, Balak, the king of Moab, went to hire Balaam, the son of Beor (Num 22:5).
The objective was for Balaam to curse the children of Israel so that Balak could prevail and drive them out of his land (Num 22:6).
Interestingly, Balaam accepted the contract, and any time he wanted to curse Israel, God would give him a message of blessing to declare, contrary to what Balak was expecting. Balak got furious at Balaam because he blessed the people he wanted cursed. But Israel was already blessed as a result of a covenant God made with Abraham, their father (Gen 17:6-7). No one can pray to God to curse them; God will contradict Himself. This is what Balaam took a parable and said unto Balak, “God is not a man that He should lie; neither the son of man that He should change His mind…”
Precious one, how well do you know God to be faithful? How well do you know that if God speaks to you, He will watch over His word to perform?
Has He said it, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good? Though the word of God for your life tarries, wait for it. It is so beautiful when God assures us, “As the rain and the snow descend from the skies and do not go back until they have watered the earth, doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for the farmer and food for the hungry, so also the words that come out of my mouth will not come back empty. They will do the work I sent them to do and complete the assignment I gave them” (Isa 55:10).
Beloved, if I were you, I would always go for the word. It is the word God watches over to perform.
It is the word that will make superior things blossom and grow in your life. It is the word of God that can produce the results you need. Go for the word, and when you do, attend to it. Never let the word depart from your eyes, but keep it in the midst of your heart. This is because when you find it, it will be life to you and medicine to your flesh (Prov 4:20-22). Let the study of the Holy Scriptures be a part of your daily life. Don’t grow weary of staying close to God and His word because the world is passing away with all its lust. But the one who does the will of God will abide forever. Once again, “Go for the Word.” Remain blessed.
