TOPIC: THE BELIEVER’S FIRST MANDATE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” – Mark 16:20
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Must every believer preach the gospel?

Jesus came to establish a kingdom on earth. He brought to earth His kingdom (John 18:36). This kingdom is the Kingdom of Heaven. This kingdom is not physical, yet men could enter it. It has its own lifestyle, mentality, and living principles—the principles of God. The people of this kingdom on earth are a chosen generation, priests who are kings, a spiritual nation with a mandate to broadcast God’s glorious wonders to mankind throughout the whole earth (1 Peter 2:9). How are we supposed to fulfil this mandate?
When Jesus died, we died with Him in our old, rugged selves. When He rose from the dead, we rose with Him in newness of life (Rom 6:4). This is good news.
Everyone has the chance now to start all over again, this time with the life of Christ at work in us. Jesus wanted us to spread this good news and bring many to the saving knowledge of what Christ has accomplished for us all. As many as would believe what Christ has done for us, or receive His person as the Son of God, will also receive the authority to become the sons of God. (John 1:12). This is how the kingdom Jesus established on earth can expand to cover the whole earth. As part of His final words, Jesus instructed us, “…as my Father has sent Me, even so send I you” (John 20:21), making it our mandate to spread the good news and bring many into the kingdom of heaven.
Precious one, isn’t it incredible that the disciples heeded this mandate given to us all?
As our theme scripture points out clearly, the disciples went out and preached everywhere. God also honoured their faithfulness to the mandate given them by confirming the good news they preached with indisputable signs and miracles. God was definitely with them through it all. They preached, and God confirmed it. Isn't it a blessing to work together with God?
Beloved, you and I cannot be left out of this important mandate. Jesus has sent us.
Do you see yourself as a man or woman who has been sent to the world with a message for them? Or you don’t know your mandate as a citizen of the kingdom? In these last days, there are numerous opportunities to share the good news and help many enter the kingdom of our dear Lord. So, take your place today. Your lifestyle in Christ is the first attraction for those who are not in Christ, to desire what you have. Everybody gravitated towards Jesus Christ when He was on earth, including Zacchaeus. If you live the life of Christ, men will gravitate towards you because you will become a wonder. In addition, share the good news with everyone God brings your way each day—friends, relatives, strangers, work colleagues, neighbours, etc.—and expect God to confirm the good news you preach. Never lose focus. This is the calling of God upon your life—spreading the good news of our Lord Jesus everywhere every day. Hallelujah!
