TOPIC: MOVE ON TO MATURITY
THEME SCRIPTURE: “For when for the time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again which is the first principle of the oracles of God; and are become such as need milk, and not of strong meat.” – Hebrews 5:12
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Who are those needing milk and those needing strong meat in this Christian life?
- How can those needing milk move on to strong meat in their Christian journey?
The Christian life is a journey. Different stages of the journey shape our spiritual maturity. Maturity is important. Nobody appreciates an immature grown man. Always remember this: growing physically is different from maturing as a person. Today, it's common to find decades-old Christians who are immature. They are still where they began—at the starting gate, still in their blocks at the starting line, while others are well into the race.
When they should be teaching others about righteousness and the kingdom of God, they are struggling to understand and walk with the word of righteousness (Heb 5:12).
To be immature is to be dull in hearing, sluggish, or dormant in the ears (Heb 5:11). Such are babies, needing milk (the oracles' fundamental principle) always and not solid food. Babies are usually dependent and comfort-seeking. They focus on what God or the church can do for them rather than reproducing (discipling others in the faith) to advance God's kingdom. Apostle Paul, addressing the immaturity of the believers in Corinth, said also, “I could not speak unto you as unto spiritual men, but as unto carnal men, even as unto babes in Christ” (1 Cor 3:1). He went on to say, “I have fed you with milk and not with solid food [of the advanced teachings of Christ] because you couldn’t have borne them (1 Cor 3:2). They were preoccupied with envying, strife, division, etc. (1 Cor 3:3)
Beloved, move on to maturity.
To mature is to come to the functional level of competence; those who have attained operational ability according to their potential and design in Christ. The perfect man is a matured believer, and Jesus is coming for a perfect and spotless church. Are you still holding on to offences? Move on to maturity. Are you struggling with jealousy and envy? Move on to maturity. Are you still selfish and self-centered? Move on to maturity. Is your Christian life summed up as “God give me….God give me…” and then “God forgive me….”? Move on to maturity
Precious One, we can realize the greater and superior destiny which can, and must be ours in Christ only if we move on to maturity.
He knows the plan He has for us, God has said. Plans that are not evil but peace, bringing us to an expected end (Jer 29:11). Focus only on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, and grow thereby. Babes are unskilled (inexperienced, lacking competence) in the word of righteousness. Go back to the word of righteousness (which is the word of God) and put it to work in your life. With the Holy Spirit’s help, move on, and keep moving towards maturity. God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- Are you growing in Christ towards maturity or you are not seeing spiritual growth these past years?
- Are you discipling others in the faith or you are struggling to grasp God’s righteousness?
CONFESSION
Precious Lord, you are the vine, I am the branch. In you, I have all it takes to grow in grace and in the experiential knowledge of Christ. I affirm that from henceforth, my focus is set on Jesus and His kingdom, walking daily in the fear of God untill I come to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Hallelujah!
