TOPIC: GOD TRUSTS YOU
THEME SCRIPTURE: “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.” - 1 Timothy 1:12
PREPARATORY QUESTION:
- How do you think God sees you?
It is characteristic of Paul to begin his Epistles with an emphasis on how he was called and for what. In the opening verse of chapter one of Timothy, he talks about the fact that “…he is an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope.” It is a way of reminding his readers of his mission and mandate and the one behind it. It is also a way of alerting his readers to the fact that he did not call himself into ministry and apostleship.
In our focus scripture, we observe his thanksgiving to Christ Jesus for considering him trustworthy to appoint him to his service. The use of the word trustworthy or faithful here does not mean Paul earned the call into ministry.
Rather, it was God who saw good in him, when Paul (then Saul) was destructive and a liability to the Church at that time.
Paul had no intention or capability to turn to God. His zeal and interest at that time were all about destroying the Church. It can be said that the Church at that time considered him an enemy of Christ, and someone they needed to pray against. But God saw good in Paul and He called him into His kingdom and also service.
Similarly, we also were, in time past, people everyone saw no good in us. Yet God saw us as people He could redeem and trust us with His gospel.
The prophecy said it right that saviours (men who will be saved to also save others) shall come up on Mount Sion to judge the Mount of Esau and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s (Obadiah 1:21 KJV). Among all those in your family, it was you God saved. Among all your siblings, your friends and those in your community, it was you God redeemed. No man can come to Jesus except the Father draws him (John 6:44). Why then did God draw you instead? It is because He can trust you with the gospel.
Precious One, you may not trust yourself, that you can take the gospel to the unsaved. That is what you think. But what God knows is this – you are the right person He needs.
You are well able to take the gospel to your family members, your work colleagues, friends and neighbours. Are you willing to see yourself as God sees you? Sometimes, people conclude that they are incapable, not because truly they are, but because they are unwilling to commit to a thing. Are you willing to commit to taking the gospel to those around you, as God’s trusted instrument? Let God grant you the courage and the resilience to serve in the gospel. The trust God has committed to you, and your appointment to His service is being fulfilled from today going forward. Glory to His name!
