TOPIC: OUR GOD IS A FINISHER
THEME SCRIPTURE: Philippians 1:6
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Does God want us to be perfect as He is perfect?
- Is it possible to be perfect as He is?
You know, some people begin a thing and never finish. They start well and yet they are not able to finish. It could be their academics, marriage, project, etc. This is because they don’t have the spirit of a finisher. God said of Zerubbabel saying, “the hand of Zerubbabel has laid the foundation and his hand shall finish it” (Zech 4:9).
Precious One, I want to bring this to your attention: God is a finisher. What He starts He brings to a close. Such that if He has said something about you He will do it. He is the God who declares the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done (Isaiah 46:10).
All because, what He says He brings to pass.
Our theme scripture in the Passion Translation reads, “I’m fully convinced that the One who began this glorious work in you will faithfully continue the process of maturing you and will put his finishing touches to it until the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ”. This is beautiful.
The one who has begun this glorious work is no other than God. What is this glorious work that God has begun in our lives? It is God who has made us accepted in His beloved [Son] Eph 1:6. It is in His Son that we have received the treasures of redemption by His blood. The total cancellation of our sins. What is this glorious work? It is God who has taken sinful men and women and made us the Righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor 5:21). What is this glorious work? The God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, as we gaze on the face of Jesus (2 Cor 4:6).
Now, God is not done with you. He will faithfully continue the process of maturing you. After, He will add His finishing touches.
Just like Joseph, God has a superior destiny in Christ for you. He has already begun the work towards this destiny. But He will mature you for it. He will mature you ‘to love to serve others’, the same way He brought Joseph to Potiphar’s house to serve. He will allow reasonable temptations but also make a way of escape for you. He will allow you to be brought into the prison for accusations that are not true. All these, and many more, are to mature you; learning to be steadfast, unmovable, and unshakable so you can always abound in the things of Christ. Precious One, don’t give up if you are going through tough times. The way to your palace may be through the prison. In the face of trials, remember that God is building you up. Have His conviction in you – whatever comes your way, God will use it to build you like an edifice until He puts His final touches on you, to His praise and glory. Hallelujah.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- In which areas will you like God to mature you this year?
- What can you do to ensure that God’s perfecting work in your life is not hindered by you?
CONFESSION
In the name of Jesus, I affirm that God, who has begun a good work in me is not done with me. Daily, the hand of God is working on me as the potter works to perfect the pot. I have become God’s poetry, a recreated person growing and fulfilling the destiny He has given me. Hallelujah.
