TOPIC: CORRECTING COURSE 

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Anyone who wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.” — Mark 9:35

 

PREPARATORY QUESTION 

1. When things are not going well, am I willing to stop, listen, and allow Christ to correct my attitude and priorities?

 

 

Good leaders know that when things begin to go wrong, silence is not a strategy. Sometimes the most responsible thing a leader can do is call everyone together, confront the issues, and restore clarity.

Jesus did exactly this with His disciples. He sat down with the twelve and addressed what was happening among them. Their concern about who was greatest revealed a deeper problem: they were thinking about position when Jesus was teaching them about service.

Jesus did not merely correct their thinking; He embodied the correction. He demonstrated that greatness in God's kingdom is not measured by prominence, recognition, or authority, but by willingness to serve. 

He also confronted their exclusivism. The disciples had tried to stop someone from ministering in Jesus' name because he was not part of their group. Jesus corrected them: “Anyone who is not against us is for us” (Mark 9:40). Their ministry was not a private possession. The work belonged to Christ.

Leadership, family, ministry, and organizational health require moments when people pause and examine themselves. A meeting is useful only when it produces honesty, correction, alignment, and renewed commitment. We must be willing to address unhealthy competition, pride, exclusion, and misplaced priorities before they damage the mission.

When Christ is at the center, correction is not about humiliation; it is about restoration. The goal is not to establish who is most important, but to ensure that everyone is serving the purpose faithfully.

Beloved, do not allow pride, competition, or exclusivity to quietly weaken what God has entrusted to you. Call the necessary conversation, speak truth in love, listen humbly, and return everyone to Christ and the mission.

PRAYER

Precious Father, search my heart and expose every attitude that competes with Your purposes. Teach me to serve rather than seek recognition, to embrace rather than exclude, and to receive correction with humility. Help me lead with truth, love, and wisdom. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
