TOPIC: MAKE ROOM FOR JESUS

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. Is there anything in your life that you are unwilling to surrender to Jesus?

 

Zacchaeus was a man of wealth and influence, yet he was deeply dissatisfied. Rejected by his community because of his dishonesty, he had accumulated possessions but lacked peace. When Jesus entered Jericho, Zacchaeus did something unexpected. He ran ahead, climbed a sycamore tree, and positioned himself to see Jesus. His actions revealed a heart that was ready for something money could never provide.

Jesus stopped beneath the tree, called Zacchaeus by name, and chose to stay at his house. Before Zacchaeus could prove himself or clean up his past, Jesus extended grace. Christ's invitation was not a reward for righteousness but an expression of His mission to seek and save the lost.

True revival always begins with God's initiative, but it never leaves us unchanged. Zacchaeus welcomed Jesus with joy, and that encounter immediately transformed his priorities. He voluntarily gave half of his possessions to the poor and pledged to restore four times whatever he had gained through fraud. His generosity did not earn his salvation; it revealed that his heart had been changed.

Revival is not measured by emotional moments or inspiring gatherings. It is seen in lives that gladly surrender whatever competes with Christ's lordship. When Jesus takes His rightful place in our hearts, our values, relationships, ambitions, and resources come under His authority. We stop asking, "What can I keep?" and begin asking, "What does Jesus desire?"

Notice that Jesus declared salvation had come to Zacchaeus' house, not because of the size of his offering, but because genuine faith had produced genuine repentance. A revived heart does not cling to old sins while claiming new life. It responds to God's grace with joyful obedience.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for seeking me even when I was far from You. Search my heart and reveal anything that competes with Your lordship. Give me the courage to surrender every ambition, possession, and habit that hinders my walk with You. Let Your grace produce genuine repentance and lasting transformation in my life. May my devotion to You be evident in the way I live, serve, and love others. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
