TOPIC: WHEN GOD REDEFINES SUCCESS

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. What are you currently pursuing that could succeed outwardly but fail spiritually?

 

 

The world has a clear definition of success.

Achievement.

Recognition.

Wealth.

Influence.

Comfort.

These are not inherently wrong, but they are incomplete. Jesus introduces a different question—one that disrupts human ambition. What if you gain everything people admire but lose what God values most—the soul?

This question reframes priorities.

It forces a deeper evaluation of direction, not just progress.

Many people live their entire lives climbing carefully chosen ladders, only to discover at the top that the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. Outward success can mask inward loss.

Jesus is not condemning ambition. He is confronting misplaced ambition.

The danger is not in having goals. The danger is in pursuing goals that ignore eternity.

Spiritual life is not measured by how much you accumulate, but by what you become in Christ.

A life centered on Christ redefines success in quieter but more lasting ways:

Faithfulness instead of fame.

Obedience instead of applause.

Character instead of image.

Eternal reward instead of temporary gain.

This does not mean believers withdraw from responsibility or excellence. It means they evaluate everything through a different lens. The question becomes: does this align with God’s purposes or only with personal advancement?

There is a cost to chasing worldly definitions of success. It often demands compromise, distraction, and neglect of what matters most. Over time, it can harden the heart toward God while still appearing outwardly successful.

Jesus calls His followers to something higher. Not less responsibility, but the right priority.

The most dangerous success is the kind that leads you away from God while convincing you that you are winning.

True success is not what you gain in the world. It is how well you fight the good fight of faith, how you finish your course, and still keep the faith.

It is who you become in Christ.

PRAYER

Father, forgive me for the times I have chased success without considering Your will. Reorder my priorities so that I value what You value. Keep my heart from being deceived by temporary gain. Teach me to pursue faithfulness above recognition and obedience above approval. Let my life reflect true success in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
