TOPIC: SENT, NOT SETTLED
THEME SCRIPTURE: "Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." —John 20:21
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- Have you unconsciously turned your Christian life into a search for comfort instead of a commitment to Christ’s mission?
Many believers want the benefits of following Christ without embracing the purpose for which He saved them.
Jesus told His disciples, “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you” (John 20:21). Those words destroy the idea that Christianity is merely about personal blessing, spiritual security, or religious activity. Every believer is sent. Every believer has a mission.
The problem is that comfort constantly competes with calling.
We prefer predictable routines, manageable commitments, and controlled environments. We like ministry when it fits our schedule and outreach when it carries little risk. Yet Jesus never promised a comfortable assignment. He promised a meaningful one.
Paul understood this. He declared, “I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus” (Acts 20:24). That is not the language of a man seeking comfort. It is the language of a man consumed with purpose.
A comfortable Christian may impress people. A committed Christian impacts eternity.
The church has often become preoccupied with being served rather than being sent. We evaluate churches by what they offer us, ministries by how they benefit us, and opportunities by how much they cost us. Christ calls us to a different standard. The question is not, "What do I gain?" but, "How can I glorify God and advance His kingdom?"
This does not mean abandoning responsibilities or neglecting wisdom. It means rejecting a self-centered faith. Jesus did not die so that we could live comfortably. He died so that we could live faithfully.
The world is filled with people who need truth, hope, encouragement, and the gospel. God has strategically placed His people in homes, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and communities to represent Him there.
Key Takeaway
The Christian life is not a call to comfort but a commission to represent Christ wherever He has placed you.
You were not saved to occupy space until heaven. You were saved to serve the King until He returns.
Do not settle into a Christianity that demands little and accomplishes less. Christ has called you to something far greater than comfort. He has called you to His mission.
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. In what ways have you prioritized comfort over obedience?
2. Where has God specifically sent you to represent Him?
3. What opportunities for ministry have you been avoiding?
4. How can you live more intentionally as Christ’s ambassador this week?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have pursued comfort more than Your calling. Help me remember that I have been sent into the world as Your representative. Give me courage to embrace inconvenience, faith to trust Your leading, and perseverance to remain faithful in the mission You have given me. Let my life point others to You and bring glory to Your name. Use me wherever You have placed me, and keep me focused on Your kingdom above my own preferences. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
